absolute beginner help

Post » Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:31 pm

Hi,

I played Doom loads when it came out but have not dabbled much for the last 15 years in these types of games. I have just purchased the Skyrim Legendary Edition PC version, started the game & created my character (Imperial).

I got taken to the medieval village, saw one guy get his head chopped off then the dragon flew in a burnt the village. After following a couple of NPC's I am now stuck in the trashed village, running around with my hands tied behind my back.

I can run around okay, jumping seems easy enough, but I can't pick up things like bows and arrows from dead guys. I'm not sure if I am doing anything wrong or just a slow learner.

I have searched for beginner pages, but most of them assume a bit more experience, or perhaps I just need some hints. not sure which so am posting in this thread.

So any links to blogs, forum post etc that would be appropriate would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Ariche

During the tutorial you cannot pick up anything until your binds are removed.

There is a tower with NPCs in. Go there then listen to what the blue guy tells you to do. then about 1 minute later do what the red guy says.

First, welcome to the forums.

Your character must follow one of the characters into the keep. Your character's hands will be unbound (Hence, the name of the quest, "Unbound.").

This will allow you to use all of the controls on your character. After that, go through the starter dungeon and into Skyrim at large. Adventure awaits. Enjoy your game.

Make your way to the keep. You can pick up stuff later in game. Your hands are tied, after all :)

You need to follow either Hadvar or Ralof into the Keep. They should be standing near separate entrances to the keep shouting things like "this way" or "no, over here". Once you get close enough to a door you should enter it automaticly. Whichever one you choose will take care of the rest. I would advise against running around trying to pick things up with your hands bound because sooner or later, something bad is going to happen to you.

Thanks Craig. That's perfect. I lost track after I dropped into the burning inn so I will restart and have another go at following them to the keep.

Don't forget something:

Skyrim is a game where you do whatever you want whenever you want and be whatever you want to be.

Don't try to overpower yourself, the game has some mechanics that makes you able to deal with almost every enemy even at low levels.

Just enjoy the game and don't rush. You have plenty of time!

Also get in the habit of checking your journal. There is usually information in the journal, and for some missions, you can set the mission you're on to active, and get a marker on the compass/map to keep you heading in the right direction.

Also, there is one creature more fearsome than even the mighty dragon, a creature so powerful that even the mightiest warriors run in fear, ITS NAME IS.......The bear......

No, really Bears ARE EVIL in this game and can tear you limb from limb.

Have fun. :) Don't forget to make a lot of manual saves. Skyrim likes to unexpectedly throw bugs at you and reloading a save is usually the easiest way to fix them.

Leaving Helgen the mudcrabs and wolves are enough to worry about. You usually don't run into a bear immediately.

You never know. In the last poll 9 people answered that Riften was the first city they went to in Skyrim.

Well, sure, if they have no sense of direction whatsoever and manage to wander to Riften, then they're going to find a bear. Or 20.

The first game I played I had a hard enough time with the wolves on the way to Whiterun. It took a long time before I managed to find Riften.
