No access to Live = No access to DLC ?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:40 am

I have had Fallout 3 and all its DLC for a while now, and usually when I play the game I'm connected to XBL.
However right now I don't have access to internet, so I said oh no problem I can still play, but even though on my HDD it shows all content on there, when I load the game itself, it shows nothing under 'downloads', and when I loaded one of my characters who was in Point lookout, it teleported me outside Vault 101 and all of the items/weapons/armor from DLC was all gone. So annoying, do you seriously need to be "connected" to use the add ons?

As far as I've experienced, yes, you have to be connected to XBL to play content downloaded from XBL.

Does that include Game of the Year?

I don't have Game of the Year addition, but I would assume you can play it all offline since it's on one disc. (I think it's on one disc[1].)

Spoiler
[1] I'm not really sure if it's only on one disc. It just seems natural that it would be.

In previous threads, they said that Fallout 3 is on 1 disc, and all 5 DLC's are on another and then you run them to the harddrive and they configure. Do you need Live for that? Because if you do, there's no point in me getting game of the year.

No you dont need to be connected to live to play fallout 3 or the added downloadable content of the GOTY edition. I have installed the DLC-disc (disc 2 of 2) when i was offline. And for a long period of time i played offline. Now i play other games online as well.
Everything works perfectly.

So if you end your Xbox live subscription. You would no longer be able to play the add-ons? Meaning you won't get a refund???

if you have the g o t y, get expansions installed onto the hard drive. but you may want to delete the dlc content first. or better yet delete the entile game except for saved games. i have had some problems with something like this. install all the contents of the game of the year edition and play using the goty disk.

You cannot end your Xbox Live subscription like that (at least not without a hell of a lot of effort).

You only pay for an X-Box Live gold subscription. If you let that expire, it reverts to an X-Box Live Silver subscription. The only difference between the two is Gold allows online multiplayer and Silver does not. You can still download and play DLC if you have Silver.

This is all false... bethesda made the GOTY for people who didnt have access to live, or did not want to pay for the DLC, or who just wanted the game, and if the game wouldnt play microsoft wouldnt get good ratings... your problem is this, as i have encountered it many times

1. if your game is installed to the HDD it will not matter. as i play from the HDD to retain the game atmosphere.
2. insert disc 2, you do not need to reinstall the DLC to the HDD, just the update it asks to install in the beginning.
3. after just take the disc out and play fallout 3.

Now that the problem is solved, you just need to know what happened.

simply put on the xbox 360 when in the HDD's memory, and you clear the system cache. THIS REMOVES ALL XBOX 360 UPDATES!!! including game updates!!!
you can clear the system cache on the HDD on the NXE dashboard without the code... but on the older model the code is either...

under where you would format your HDD

press x, x, LB, RB, x, x

or x, x, LT, RT, x, x

or x, x, RT, LT, x, x

or x, x, RB, LB, x, x

if the above solutions do not fix the issue, try reinstalling the DLC. But for me the update is always the problem...

peace out,

I don't have access to xbox live where I live, no broadband internet avaiable, but I bought and downloaded the DLC over a a friends house on his xbox, using my hard drive but didnt think I would need anything else, is there no way, sort of buying the GOTYE to get the update to allow me to play the DLC? I got the latest xbox update that allows USB support is there no way to download it to my computer and then transfer it over, or is there more involved then just a patch to the game????

it might be the HDD serial key not encrypted with the xbox 360s serial number... like when you format it! cause if you install a game on 1 xbox on a HDD then try to play it from HDD on another xbox it will play from disc... instead of HDD... unless you format it... but i think you just need the update

peace out

You should be alble to do this... but if you're on a new Xbox 360 (whether yours broke or you upgraded), you'll need to do an Xbox license transfer before being able to use the content offline.
