Ace or PerMa? perk overhaul choices?

Post » Sat May 16, 2015 5:38 am

Alright, i know of Ace, and i keep seeing and hearing PerMa around the Nexus mod sections, compatibility packs and such. My question here is a simple one, how many GOOD overhaul mods for perks are there, what are they, and what do they each accomplish in thier own right? so i know what im getting myself into so i can choose what is best for me later

Well, I researched this exact subject a few weeks ago and here is what I came up with:

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19281/?: Overhauls the entire game, including perks. Makes the game MUCH harder with a focus on roleplaying. Difficulty is achieved largely by increasing the damage done by both PC and enemies, so battles can be over quick one way or the other. Alters virtually every mechanic in the game. There are a series of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1AVfsqMFZg videos linked on the Requiem site that will give you a basic idea about what this mod is all about. Requiem completely delevels the world.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9286/?: Overhauls the entire game, but not as extensively as Requiem and its modular so you can pick and choose. Adds some cool new perk tres like Fingersmith and Wayfarer, but renaming and consolidating other trees. Overall it is not as comprehensive an overhaul as Requiem but it is probably more popular. It makes the game harder but not nearly as hard as Requiem, which is probably why it is more popular. Also, the world remains leveled/scaled in SkyRe. SkyRe also has some good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xVhes9uVqol videos to give you an idea what it is all about.

Sperg: Mainly a perk overhaul that does not change other elements of the game.

PerMa: Done by the same person who made SkyRe. It picks up where SkyRe left off and adds extensively to the perk trees of SkyRe. I don't think it is a comprehensive overhaul like SkyRe, but honestly, I did not research PerMa that much.

I was looking for a more comprehensive overhaul, so I spent most of my time comparing SkyRe with Requiem, and in the end I went with Requiem. I liked a lot of what I learned about SkyRe but I really liked the design philosophy behind Requiem.

If you're mainly interested in overhauling perks, my favorite is http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21512/? It adds over a hundred new perks and, like most perk mods, reworks vanilla perks. It adds racial perks, class perks, quest-related perks and roleplaying perks.

I use SPE with the Uncapper mod to give my characters five or six race and class perks right at level two. This helps greatly in making my characters feel unique.

I cannot speak to ACE as it is not one of the mods I considered using, mostly cause I had not heard about it. I just took a quick look and it looks interesting.

Gopher only used ACE for a few episodes until he started using SkyRe for Richard. I do not recall how many episodes since it has been a couple of years since that lets play started.

Ace does a good job at what it does, as far as i seen, and he dropped SkyRe for Ace, so to hear he reverted is a little confusing, but not unlikely. he did enjoy Ace for the smithing perks, but if SkyRe does what Ace did making non combat stuff combat rrelated in some way, i can see myself using SkyRe.

Also, i should mention to everyone.... Requiem is a niche thing, it's basically making SKyrim into Dark Souls difficulty in a way, which is fine and cool and i like that idea, im just not playing skyrim for the difficulty but rather to enjoy the game in all it's aspects. sure i want harder people to face, but that can be given in other mods without totally wrecking me.

I think Gopher was waiting for the new version of SkyRe when Richard started and I think the new version of SkyRe was not compatible with the older version. So he went with ACE since he did not know when the newer version of SkyRe was coming out.

I would have to rewatch the early episodes.

I am not a fan of Requiem or even SkyRe since I feel both take away what Skyrim is to me. I tried Perma since for the most is more geared to the perks but found that it did not suit me, I preferred the perks from SkyRe more but I did not like the changes made to combat.

I have used Perky Reborn which adds quite a few perks. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36542/?

i believe your right on that, he did mention something about SkyRe being version changed and things neding to work on, so he switched to ACE, which he was enjoying for awhile until going back to SkyRe, if he did though because idk yet. if he did, thats why.

as for Perky, adding new perks is awesome and all, but i am only looking for perk mods for when i go through the game a second time. because ill go through thr game the first time with only slight gamelplay modifications, immersive mods, and texture mods. and the second will be for making the game talored to me. which can be anything. idk if the vanilla perks will be something i hate or enjoy. so until then im just looking for options.

I am not trying to talk you into anything here, just responding for anyone else who may read this thread -- so they don't think Requiem is like dark souls.

While I agree that Requiem is niche and that it makes the game much more difficult, -- I actually think it is quite a bit harder than dark souls in the beginning -- I wanted to point out that the focus of Requiem is old school roleplay and it is really nothing like dark souls, which I consider to be more of an action game than a roleplay game.

While Requiem does have an action element, you don't need particularly good action skills to play it -- strategy and tactics are more important. Requiem unlevels the world, so if you take your time and build your character, you can eventually tackle even the toughest opponents even without the greatest action skills. Requiem also provides many different ways to build your character in a way that is consistent with roleplaying, so you are not forced into just a few "best" builds.

sorry if i had made it out to be making skyrim into dark souls. all i really know of it, as i said, was that it makes the game into something with a difficulty to rival the known punishing game series of Dark Souls. Requim, i agree, does not make Skyrim into Dark Souls, but rather makes the difficulty rival that of the series and it's 'hardcoe' style gameplay of tactics and strategy that an RPG should have. though the difficulty can make even the best think twice, making Requim a rather niche mod, but one that i think is an amazing idea and should be given attention for.
