[RELz] Achievements for All

Ever wished you could earn achievements and use FOSE at the same time? Now you can! Achievements for All keeps track of your achievements when you're not logged into Games for Windows Live, and then turns them in for offical credit the next time you log on.

One of the most common complaints about FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) is that you can't earn achievements with it. This is because FOSE is incompatible with Games for Windows Live, and so in order to use one, you must disable the other. Achievements for All is designed to address that complaint.

Note that this release is for the original 50 (minus one) achievements ONLY. Addon packs for the DLC are coming soon.

Very nice idea sounds like its alot easier than the save your game then change to non FOSE Fallout and get the achievement. I'm sure there's plenty of people that would want this. Shame i've already got 68/68 achievements done.

not the least of which is the monumentally tedious task of tracking down and modifying every single instance where achievements are given out in the entire game.

JustinOther already did the tedious work, of tracking them down anyway, for you in his http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3813.

Yeah, I've been using his mod as a reference and its been a great help. It's mainly a matter of going through the motions 50+ times. The worst (and what the remover can't help me with) are the ones that show up in quest and dialogue result scripts, because they can have multiple outcomes, each of which triggers the achievement, and god forbid I miss one.

My grumblings aside, what does everyone think about ingame achievement tracking? Right now I think I might just provide instructions for using Steam's ingame browser to view your achievements page, but if that's not enough for some people, I might be able to provide a list in the game itself.

I don't use GFWL as it causes too much problems and I like to use FOSE, but I would like to show off what I have done in the game...

Will you add DLC achievements?

They won't be in the first release, seeing as I don't even have any of the DLC at the moment. I'll try to add them in not too long after that, though.

It sounds like a good idea to me. I'd like to get the achievements, but I want to use FOSE and mods more.

Since you're spending the time to do this I assume there is just no possible way to sign in to Live and get achievements with the DLC in the Data folder?

I've been using http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=959505&st=0&p=13872813&#entry13872813 by JustinOther as the standard procedure for offline DLC use and it works. However, I've read of some folks simply moving the DLC to the Data folder (changing nothing else about GFWL) and being able to sign in to Live and get achievements. I haven't tried it myself.

I don't have any first hand experience with the DLC, but as far as I know the achievement problems only occur when you disable GFW.

And thanks to a post by Cipsis in the achievement remover thread, I've just been made aware of the wonderful "Find text" tool, which will make my job infinitely easier. I should have the first version out by the end of the week.

Yes, with the DLC files in the Data folder you can still earn achievements, just rename the hidden DLC folder to something else after you move them, a Data folder instance and a GFWL instance of the DLC running at the same time will cause huge problems.

GFWL doesn't need to be disabled? Nothing special needs to be done? I can run FOSE, mods, be signed in and get achievements? :coolvaultboy: Well then, I'm going to have to try this and see for myself. If it works I owe you a beer!

I've been grinding along and I've gotten up to achievement 17, or "Those!" and I've got a few technical questions for those in the know.

First of all, I can't find achievement 16, which should be "The Wasteland Survival Guide". There's one instance of "addAchievement" in the survival guide quest (MS03), but it's for achievement 14, which all other evidence leads me to believe is "Big Trouble in Big Town". What's going on here?

Second of all, I've been leaving the actual "addAchievement" statements alone and inserting my own stuff nearby, as I figure it's best not to mess with the original functionality if I don't have to. Now I've been hearing about the achievements causing problems with DLC. Should I be commenting them out, at least in the case of the DLC?

I've put the first release up on FO3Nexus for download, enjoy.

This has been sitting on my hard drive for about a week because I haven't had time to fully test it, but I've come to realize that if I really were to fully test it, it would continue to sit there for months, so I'm releasing it now. Besides, my initial tests have worked out just fine. Just get one or two achievements and make sure it correctly awards them to you before you go out and try to get all 50 at once, and you should be fine.

Is there any chance of getting a version with the DLC achievements. I don't want to start up another game if I can't get anything from the DLC's.
