"Getting?" I'd say they started out that way.

Indeed. They're just the latest attempt at increasing replayability, following unlockables and secrets.

As near as I can tell, rather than encouraging and rewarding imagination and creativity, game designers have chosen the path of proactively compensating for its absence.

I guess, from pure profit standpoint, I can't blame them, but it still saddens me.

First things first, there is going to be achievements/trophies in Skyrim so stop saying they shouldn't be any, this is a descusion on what achievements/trophies we want in Skyrim.

An achievement for visiting every location in the game(not just the 5 cities) would be great. Ive always been the kind of player that likes to visit every single location in rpg's, I think I went to all locations in Oblivion. :hehe:

I hate achievements in a game like elder scrolls.
Im happily roleplaying along and up pops a message and I hear a sound and suddenly I got '10 gamerpoints'
Who cares?

Elder scrolls is so not about bragging rights, its a game where 'finishing the game' is largely a meaningless phrase..
Argh.
Its all just so.. juvenile.
Achievements? None please, let me play my own darn game.

And about 'they should force different playstyles on me'..
There arent enough negative words in the English language to respond to that.

:brokencomputer:

Well you do have the option to turn off notifications..
why would they exclude something like this which does have a valid point to be on here and talked about,
just because a handfull of people dont like this?
i like meaningful acheivements because its self fullfilling to me..
in short at the end of the day and the game is over i like to look back at all the games ive played and see what i have acheived and what i havent.
It gives it a challenge aspect aside from just being a video game.

So i like the idea of kill your first dragon and complete the theives guild (beome guildmaster basically) or something new, butstill have progression within each guild per each acheivement like they had in OB

It's just a sign of lazy developers. Instead of adding game content that increases replayability such as, multiple ways to do a quest, multiple endings dependant on the choices
you make, ect., developers will just tac on some meanngless achievements and call it replayability.

They're also used by developers to find out what features gamers actually use. They have access to the all achievement information for their games.

The achievements in Oblivion are completely fine by me. So i wouldn't mind if it were going to be the same thing in skyrim

I hope there within Oblivions and Fallout 3s. Halo 3s multiplayer achievements werent skill based there just based on luck they relied on other people did within the game and not your own skill or you resorting to camping a weapon spawn, i would know ive done them all twice. The beat the game on this difficulty achievements wont work for Skyrim if its anything like Oblivion cause it was only a slider bar.
