Achievements You Got on Accident

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 6:02 am

So... Had anybody ever got any achievements on accident in any game? (Minus obvious "Level Complete" or "Gamemode Complete" achievements).

I think the best achievement I've ever gotten totally on accident (Or in this case, wasn't even cause of ME) was on Dragon Age: Origins. (I think that's the first one, yes?).

What happened was had that one encounter where ye' COULD lose your assassin elf buddy (And I didn't btw) and the whole fight thing happened. I decided to have fun playing as the elf assassin dude, instead of my normal battlemage character, and I kinda made him an archer honestly so went ahead and ranged from a safe distance while the enemies mostly ganged up on Alistair (like always)...

Well after, my character ended up casting a chain lightning spell on his own while I was playing as the elf and upon doing so, I got an achievement... I paused and checked out which one and apparently it was the achievement which YOUR character has to do a large amount of damage... I, for one, started cracking up laughing cause apparently it still counts when your character does it as an AI!

Anyways... So what about ye'?

Pretty much this.

I occasionally check them out, just 'cos of curiosity, but I don't generally bother going for them. The exceptions tend to be those that sound like they'll be fun to pull off.

The Simpsons game has one that you get at the opening menu.
I think it pops when you press Start to start the game.

I normally don't care for achievements at all but when they are there, I do try to go for them. (Most of them I do get without caring but that is cause most of them are too obvious).

Outside of Borderlands 2 where for a while I was pursuing achievements for the "Badass" ranks, I'm like funnybunny.

I don't even look at the list of achievements (either built-in in-game or "Steam" ones), if there is one, so often don't even know they exist until I see some message popup.

I kind of wish achievements and trophies came with some benefits. The more games you play the more benefits you get. Get a bunch of achievements on steam, Xbox Live or PSN? It would make sense that they would reward you for that as you have brought them a lot of revenue. Just small things, like a free month of Xbox Live or PSN every 5,000 points or whatever equivalent is on PSN. Steam could give you a code that slashes the price of a game you wanted. Etc etc: mostly pro-consumerist policies.

As for the topic, most often I just kind of get the achievements on accident. Only a handful of games have ever inspired me to get all the achievements, Dark Souls, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Dragons Dogma are the only ones that come to mind with full completion.

I think the one that surprised me the most, off the top of my mind, was when you reverse pick pocket someone and notice that grenade in your inventory, then put an explosive into someone else's inventory in Fallout 3. Then getting an achievement for it. I just thought, "Really?!? Dafuq?"

I'm with funnybunny too. I'm not really opposed to them, just not interested.

Most of them, really.

Probably my greatest achievement was "idiot" in Risen (I think) from being killed to death from falling from spectacularly stupid locations several times.

I don't really look at achievements before I play something, so most achievements I get are on accident. The one I remember best was for Half-Life 2. The combine guard told me to pick up the can and put it in the trash. I did what came natural in such a situation.

Then I heard the achievement sound.

One of the most memorable accidental acheivements for me was "Rasputin" in TF2.

It's a bit of a difficult one for the Heavy Weapons Guy. In one life, you need to get shot, lit on fire, hit with a melee weapon and hit with an explosion. From what I can remember (this was feb 2012) it was a really intense round of CTF.

This. I don't bother to get achievements, so they are all on accident.
