ACK! What happened today with Skyrim

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:46 pm

Was there an update today that I did not know about? After 3 days of tweaking my graphics I finally was able to go out in the world without falling off the mountains or running in to uglies due to a gray wall that should be pictures. Play well all morning, shut the game off for an hour and now trying to get in there are no bloody graphics just smears of different shades of grey! When I first started the game it rest all my graphics again so now i am back to square one. Maybe it has to do with my running off battery, or maybe this is just a poke at the bear so to speak.

Am i the only one?

Im sorry you experience this bug :(

Maybe you could try asking on the pc section of the hardware and software subsection of the forum?
Perhaps people there have some idea how to help, I unfortunately dont.

Did you backup your .ini files? If you were tweaking and went to the in game settings at any point they may have been reset and your save games would be reliant on the old .ini files. If you didn't back up your files try the following -

1. Right click on the game in the Steam library and select Properties
2. Navigate to the "Local Files" tab
3. Click "Verify integrity of game cache"

Then proceed to make alterations to the .ini again, making sure to back up the original and new copies. Be careful if you make changes via the console or in-game settings.

Hope you solve it

I never went into my ini files, I did it through the game and steam. I did ask on the other forums and all the wanted was pictures, which i can not post here as I have no webspace to put them into.

My specs are such:

Windows 7 home premium
HP Pavilion dv7 notebook pc
Intel i5 cpu - M 430 @2.27GHz
RAM: 6 GB
64 bit OS
Graphic Card: 5470 ATI Mobility Radeon Premium

What am i missing?

I do not like messing with the ini files, and no mods. if i tweak it is where it is easily done and if it changes the ini, so be it.

AND...I got this Laptop new in February of this year.

Have you done this then?

1. Right click on the game in the Steam library and select Properties
2. Navigate to the "Local Files" tab
3. Click "Verify integrity of game cache"

That will check for corrupt files. It's actually better to do this if you never messed with .ini then you don't have to worry about it.

Was that all it took? After i plugged my LT into the wall, and validated my cache, I went back into game, using the Skyrim shortcut, and it AGAIN re-evaluated my graphics. This time it was all changed to High, which was a first. I thank all for the help. Gonna go see if the outside world loves me today or if i will fall off more mountains ;)

I had something like that once in another game. Turned out my video card was dying. It only showed symptoms in that one game, but after about a week then my computer wouldnt boot. Swapped out the card and all was well.

after playing I find it gets worse, so I suppose I will shelve the game until I figure what is up.
