I found an article with regard to Activion Black Ops, that says they may even start to apply charges for online time, who thinks we may have to press the panic button??

This topic as worded

anolyst: Activision has to start charging for playing Call of Duty online
Posted Jul 17th 2010 7:00PM by John Callaham
Filed under: Biz, FPS, Multiplayer, Call of Duty: Black Ops

The June console game sales numbers from NPD Group came in earlier this week and, well, they were not good. Not good at all. Software sales were down 15 percent from the same period a year ago and it doesn't look like the rest of the year will see any gains compared to 2009.

That's maybe why Wedbush Morgan Securities anolyst Michael Pachter has decided to push the panic button. Industrygamers reports that Patchter sees playing online games like the Call of Duty series online for free (PC and PS3) or via an unlimited fee (Xbox 360) has "svcked the available time away from what otherwise would be spent playing newly purchased games."

Patchter believes that Activision, who currently leads the pack in terms of multiplayer shooters, has to make the first move to charge gamers to play online. He states, "It is too early to tell whether that will be a monthly subscription, tournament entry fees, microtransaction fees, or a combination of all three, but we expect to see the company take some action by year-end, when Call of Duty Black Ops launches."

What do you think of that statement, and could this be the start of high cost gaming, ???

@yoz303303

And that is a fact, it would kill me to pay and play, i have most new releases on pre-order, could I afford to pay n play for them all, hell no.

But having pre-ordered a few games this time, and not able to afford paynplay, kinda makes his statement look dumb im sure you would agree.

This is old news, Activasion is just looking to make more $ ! Sony will never let them do that on the PS3, thank god !

what is a fact is that they might start doing it when you buy a used game, like putting in a code in the game to activate online playing and obviously the person who bought it new will have used it !

Thats impossible if you ask me...
That`s the same as Ford would ask a second hand car buyer a fee for the use of there car....No goverment will allow this i think.

Activision is stupid. They would be the first and the last company to charge monthly for a first person shooter.

I myself, am not buying Black Ops because of my hate for Activision. For all I know, they are waiting until everyone purchases the game, and only THEN will they start charging for online play. =/

I'm not taking a chance with it, atleast not until good reviews come out about the game from people I know, and if Crysis 2 fails, then I will get it.

Its fun for what it is and i don`t hate it....
If they would start charging i will stop buying, simple...

I still prefer cod4 over mw2...all the air domination is just a joke.
And the new mode proves they made a big mistake....

I want to fight against a player not a chopper gunner or ac130
and whit black ops there returning to that style.

Like you i will not get it on release date and wait for some players reviews before getting it.

like the person above, i still play cod4 instead of mw2, it would be a shame to kill the next potential cod game worth playing

I think EvilVision, sorry Acitivision just chuck this crap out there to see how the fans react, if they didn't moan too much they would do it, FACT!
The greed of that company will never cease to amaze me. Stopped buying their games a long time ago, shame really cus Singularity is a good game.

The best example is APB. But that wasn't an FPS, but a third person shooter.

Truth be told, this is possibly going to happen. I'm not fussed because I don't play any CoD games any more.

What a joke! I stop playing MW2 and long time ago for many reasons and I rather play Crysis 2 any day.
