Activision to own the Civilization franchise and others?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:00 pm

And yet Activision still doesn't realize why their games will continue to svck.

There is one thing you are forgetting. Activision. 2K, EA and Zenimax etc etc don't care if the games svck, all they care is if they are getting the money. For Activision, they are making Billions, BILLIONS of $$$, so why would they care if their games svck. Only once they stop getting money, then they will care if their games svck. But since as you say, they are making svcky games, why stop? They are still getting Billions of dollars in sales EVERY year so nothing will change until that stops changing. So they must be doing something right to be getting Billions of dollars in sales ever year.

Bethesda may care if their games svck or not, but as long as they are making money, Zenimax couldn't give a rat's [censored] if the game is good or not, but as long as the money is there.

Believe it or not, some (probably most) companies do care about putting out a quality product. Otherwise why would they go into the gaming business to begin with?

Great more series for Activision to cancel, so they can focus even more on CoD.

I don't know. It seems that everything which Activision touches turns to crap, at least slowly over time. I'd rather not see it happen.

No! Keep the Activision taint away from Take Two. Their subsidiaries create some of my favorite games!

What the [censored] is that thing?

Did Spyro get third degree burns all over his body during a car crash and then get Freddy Crueger as his body and facial reconstruction surgeon?

That my friend is what happened when the "Childhood Destroying Division" of Activision uncovered a dusty old folder marked "Spyro" and encountered a malfunction in the process of rebooting him that involved violently slapping him in the face with a frying pan.

At least with Spyro, this new game isn't as surprising as it could have been. Ever since Insomniac sold the poor thing developer after developer has been putting him in worse and worse games, and now look at him. Other publishers may have been screwing up Spyro before Activision, but I don't recall any of them being so desperate to reboot him that they'd do... that.

On the brightside you have a new Red dead something begining with R. More often, shame it will get dragged through the mud, R* is my second favorite developer, after bethesda.

But Less competition for Bethesda is a good thing

Not really, while Fallout 3 was fun, RDR was amazing, but just in a way fallout wasnt, it would be good if the game was the same a cheap clone e.g two worlds, but RDR is nothing like any bethesda game, same for GTA, bioshock.

Hmmmmm....

Honestly, if this was a year ago, I'd think this deal might go through. Right now, I really don't think so. The economy is just starting to get better. That means businesses will expand, including Activision and Take Two. So Take Two is going to want a premium on their current price, which Activision won't want to pay. Plus, I don't see a deal for Activision stock being really likely. I wouldn't want Activision stock after they've killed off two units, and the very public war they've had with the CoD creators. That's just my thoughts, Wall Street probably has vastly different opinions.

I haven't had much of a problem with Activision, to be honest. I mean, I hate the games they make and the attitude they foster in the industry, but I haven't had much of a motivation to actively dislike them...

Until I heard about this. I just saw this after googling Spyro today(I've been replaying the original series), and I'm seriously going to have nightmares of that thing punching my childhood in the crotch(repeatedly). :nope: Even if you forget that it's supposed to be Spyro, whoever designed that abomination against nature had to be seriously [censored] up if he thinks that looks good.

Sign me up for the Activision hate train. :flamethrower:

As a side note, I really hope that someday the series gets handed over to a studio that knows how to make platformers, and bring it back to it's roots. I'd probably buy a PS3 immediately if I heard it got handed back over to Insomniac.

Actually this did happen last year. EA tried to take over Take Two, but Take Two balked at it. I am not sure why Take Two would take Activisions offer since it's less. Maybe Activsions offer will include people keeping their jobs like with Blizzard, but I don't see that happeneing but we don't know what is going on behind the scenes so time will tell. I am not so sure that the economy is getting better. Sure that is what they say on the news, but I am still out of a job, and many people I know are out of a job. If they do have a job, it's not making much money, just to get buy, so I can't see anyone buying things because there is still no spare money to be buying things.

You are right about one thing. Wall Steet has different opnions. They don't care if games svck. Look at all the games Activision makes, and people say they make bad games. For a company who makes bad games, they sure make millions of dollars a year.

No, the Take Two-EA acquisition was in 2008.

You guys realize that Activision is just a subsidiary of Vivendi right? :P I'm pretty sure Vivendi could buy Take Two in a heartbeat.

I wonder if Vivendi could even dump Activision when CoD runs out of steam and they have no franchise left to milk.

Red Dead? GTA? L.A. Noire? Bioshock? Civilization? Keep you filthy hands off of my games Kotick. Before things get nasty

So if they bought them out, there would be a new RDR every year and they would svck. Same for all the other games. Ugh

Can we get an emoticon of us "expressing" our feelings to Mr. Kotick and Activision?
