To me that just borders on Steampunk, which I just don't like personally, so I'd have to say no. Even the Dwemer hadn't put an actual gun together yet (though they had flying ships) so I just can't see adding it now.
The problem is real firearms basically make all melee weapons and even armor, all but obsolete.
What if guns were just glorified staves for mages?
Almost like a conduit for their magicka abilities?
I would personally love it if some kind of steampunk-like guns started to show up in TES, but I know that most people would hate it. Maybe some kind of mineral is discovered my an alchemist that is basically gunpowder, or some kind of new technique is discovered by an enchanter that lets normal (non-mage) people shoot things or something like that.
I think being made by the same dev team it would be too much like Fallout with guns... err... with swords. Fallout with swords and guns. Fallout with swords, guns and mushrooms from Oblivion.
I'm thinking like Napoleon era muskets, where there is a good chance that it won't work at all, and sometimes they just blow up in your face.
Well phew, that completely clears that up.
We have staves that can shoot fireballs, lightning bolts, and frost bolts as well as a number of different offensive effects. You have exploding crossbow bolts in Skyrim and arrows in Morrowind that have area-effect explosions. If all that fails, you even have your hands to shoot things out of. I don't see what you can get out of having firearms in an ES game (not much accuracy for the early small-arms, certainly no rifles involved). If you're on PC you can keep an eye out for mods for Skyrim or Oblivion adding firearms, and even if not you can still go get Fallout games with melee weapons and firearms. Or if you miss your fantasy setting, go for Fable II or something.
We've seen Dwemer explosives before, so they weren't far off of the technology from it, but that research wasn't based in Skyrim and it didn't seem to move to firearms. Surely none of the other races have reached the Dwemer level of tech yet and I at least haven't come across any Dwemer plans in their seat of power indicating firearm development. I for one don't want them to, because the Dwemer mastered steam power and we all know what that leads to.
Guns would make no sense for now, but in a possible sequel taking place centuries later, maybe. I once read this article
http://gameideas.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_7:_Akavir
without noticing it was just a fan's idea. It was so disappointing noticing this later.
No thanks. Cannon, perhaps (AFAIK there were cannon in Redguard?), but leave it at that.
I'm so desperate for any feature that brings the chance of failure back into these games that I actually could support this.
I would add a handful of unique Dwemer weapons. Uniques that are hard to acquire. And once they have been acquired there is still a chance, as you say, that they may not work. They could have a devastating effect on an enemy when they work...but when they don't work, the effect on the player could be equally devastating. Something like that would be kind of interesting to me.
Crossbows are gun enough for me as far as this series goes.
Seriously. Firing an upgraded advanced dwarven crossbow with all the perks is like using a 30.06. Deadly at any range.
I would love to see blunderbusses in TES.
I think it would be really interesting to have some kind of long, drawn-out quest where you search for some kind of ancient sword or something, but once you find it, you realize that it's been totally rusted out over the years or something like that.
Maybe. I'm not completely opposed to the idea but there would have to be some sort of balance as to not make swords, magic, bows, etc redundant or obsolete.

I would hate it! Crossbows are the closest you'll ever get to guns in TES, I hope.
I thought that was what happened with all of the artifacts in Skyrim.
Wait what? I swear I have seen guns in TES!
Skyrim staves were guns. They functioned exactly how a gun would function. But why the hell did they attach a stave model and that dorky animation to it, I have no idea.
Also. Morrowind Dwemer Spheres had guns. They shot dart sized projectiles out of their arm. If anything qualifies as a gun in TES, it is Dwemer Sphere's arm.
I would not be 100% opposed to it. It would have to be very limited, a glass cannon. That stuff would rip apart all armor.... also Nords and Red Guards would love dat stuff
im pretty sure they shot from small crossbows from their wrists if i remember correctly.
No i hate the idea of guns in tes,why in oblivion would we need them?Magic is way more powerful anyways.
