This is a good list to help people get started playing the game.
Since it's so heavy in retextures this may help.

It's a free program that can open dds files so people can see textures and mix and match textures packs more easily. :foodndrink:

It's nice to have a different look for each town.

Going to give my feedback example by example. Please forgive anything that may come off as rude, I'm just putting a critical eye to your selections.

=>Westly's Dwemer Ruins
-I am a huge fan of Westly's work on heads, but I submit http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5688 as the superior retexture of Dwemer Ruins. Darknut is legendary when it comes to translating the grit of the vanilla game into high-resolution textures. I find Westly's textures to be a bit too soft to truly represent the Dwemeri architecture. Once again, Westly is a fantastic modder with a fantastic talent, but in my opinion his Dwemer textures are outdone by Darknut's.

=>Unique Imperial Textures
-Consistency is important for immersion, especially in something like architecture, and especially when the textures used in UIT are not consistent in texture resolution/quality. This pack DOES include what I hold to be the best rendition of imperial forts, however: Darker Morrowind's forts are fantastic, though it is difficult to "recommend" them as one would have to extract only them from the pack. To me, it's well worth the effort, but it makes them hard to put in a list like this.

=>Shacky Shacks(!)
-Wyrm is awesome and I love their work, though in terms of their shack textures, I've always stuck with the default textures out of the Visual Pack XT. They might still be worth listing, Wyrm did a great job on them.

=>White Suran
-While once a fantastic addition to morrowind, the textures included in White Suran are sub-par by today's standards. They are blurry/low res and don't fit very well with any of the current textures, particularly the Visual Packs.

=>Unique Heads Balmora
-Never played with it.

=>Correct UV rocks/trees
-Excellent suggestions, they should definitely be included in this list.

=>Bitter Coast Sounds
-Not graphics related. Obviously a fine mod, but not really within the scope of this list.

=>Starfire NPCs
-Not really within the scope of this list

=>Book Jackets
-Really awesome, great suggestion.

=>Book Rotate
-Not really within the scope of this list

=>Key replacer
-Yeah, alright.

=>LGNPC
-Not within the scope of this list.

- Texture Fix (by Slartibartfast, I think?) is a must for any texture replacer of better resolution then the originals.
- CanadianIce robe replacers
- Maybe a no-glow mod?

This fixes in general for the code patch are useful though. Most are pretty self explanatory, and some of them might not be necessary, but I'd use all the ones that don't seem too outlandish to you, since they make various aspects of the game more playable. I'm thinking specifically of the fixes to weird attribute bugs. Also, for Vvardenfell Visages, this plugin simply replaces the default heads with more high quality ones. Better heads actually assigns individual community developed heads to many(it might even be all, I can't remember) of the NPCs in the game. You can use both simultaneously, that way many of the NPCs will look better due to better head's individual treatment of them, but the NPCs that use default heads will still get an upgrade (thanks to Vvardenfell Visages).

[edit] I'd also recommend book jackets. It's along the lines of a slight change to the game, like you suggested might be nice for the balmora temple. It adds unique covers to each of the default books in morrowind, and there are expansions of the mod for tribunal and i believe bloodmoon as well. Here's a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4054 to the original. You can still use better books though, as that's just a replacer for the default texture(in the same way as Vvardenfell Visages). I hope none of the above is confusing, I was in a bit of a hurry when i wrote it.

[further edit] http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27167 by Korana is, I think, a must in any graphics upgrade. The link is to the full list of Koran'as mods, and there's some other stuff you might like as well there. I was always personally attached to the Redoran retexture as well, but some find it too white/bright. If anyone can suggest a better Redoran retexture, I might even change my tastes, however.

Because people don't have the patience to read large blocks of text: sorry, my bad.

Vvardenfell Visages- This is JUST a texture replacement for the default faces. It can, and should, be used in addition to a replacer like Better Heads.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27167- Great mod for sprucing up the look of, as the name implies, things like skooma and flin in game. Again, this link is for all of Korana's morrowind mods, as this is the only way to find them. Her Redoran retexture I also think is nice.

Book Jackets- Comes in a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=4054, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4055, and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4056 versions. Also, I mentioned this one first in the thread =p.

It replaces the meshes too (just in a "pluginless" fashion ;) ).

While it does utilise many faces by UQF and a "handful" by
myself, many of the faces from VV can also be found in BH :D .

I've added the Better Book Jackets along with their Bloodmoon and Tribunal versions. Thanks for that. ^_^
The other mod though I'm still debating putting up or not. As it does lead to numerous other mods that'd be putting up a list. Next thing ya know other peoples lists are being put up and some newcomer that arrives to check it out will be overwhelmed.

Going to give my feedback example by example. Please forgive anything that may come off as rude, I'm just putting a critical eye to your selections.

My response example by example. =p

=>Westly's Dwemer Ruins
After checking them both out I do agree you on Darknut's version. Westly does a good job but it seems his looks more formal. As though the dwemer ruins now contain a sense of elegance about them. Darknut's did a good job at maintaining the gritty, rust, iron theme the Dwemer had.

=>Unique Imperial Textures
This'll require more looking into.

=>Shacky Shacks(!)
Little re-texture never hurt anyone. On the plus side as many other re-textures do this one contains pictures to show what it looks like. So hopefully those looking to upgrade their graphics will take a look and decide for themselves if they wish for it to be added or not.

=>White Suran
Have to agree with you on this one. If someone was looking to make Morrowind vibrant then yeah go for it. But alas this topic is just for upgrading what is already here while maintaining the classic theme of Morrowind

=>Unique Heads Balmora
Same. Never even heard of it nor does it provide pictures which is essential for a graphics mod. Maybe in the future if more light is shed up on this it'll be looked into.

=>Correct UV rocks/trees
I can't believe I forgot these... :facepalm:

=>Bitter Coast Sounds
While I do agree this is a good mood, it has to do more with atmosphere and immersion. That I'll leave up to the player. I'm just here to make this game look good. =p

=>Starfire NPCs
Again agree. Have tried out NPC addition mods in the past this does look nice but you suffer a performance hit as a result. Also this is in a sense a more atmospheric kind of mod.

=>Book Jackets & rotate
I've included the jackets in the update and while do the rotation doesn't fit into this all it is included on the page of the Book Jacket downloads so meh...people can download if they want to, lol.

=>Key replacer
Added onto the list

=>LGNPC
Agree with you again.

Oh right. Good point. My original idea still stands though. If you use Vvardenfell Visages with a replacer like Better Heads, you'll still have a benefit for any NPCs who use default heads, like those added by mods or not touched by Better heads. Thanks for pointing out that it's a mesh based mod as well.

Sadface! :( I know I'm a newcomer (relatively speaking), but I daresay http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=User.EntriesListing&id=254548 are rather good (particularly given the lack of alternatives...).

Of course, I'm completely biased in my opinion. :hehe:

I do like Alaisiagae's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7673. I use the NoRobe version and install http://grotto.moddersrealm.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=20 with it. I also really like http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6903.

I generally agree with all the comments about my comments, but you guys really need to check out http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1073. Some of them are stunning. Look at some of the screenshots on http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Portfolios.Detail&id=9905 - Masalinie Merian, Ranis Athrys, Galbedir, Eydis Fire-Eye. (The screenshots are kind of dark, but it should give you a decent idea.)

Bump

Sorry for the slow update. Some real life things going on.

Attention
If anyone can tell me of the update, two particular ones I added were both Vvardenfall Visages and Unique Balmora heads
Now the way I see it upon installing to a clean game. Vvardenfall visages would give everyone in game a better looking head, then Better heads would overwrite most but not all of the Vvardenfall Visages heads, leaving the ones that weren't updated for whatever reason still looking good. Then lastly Unique Balmora heads to give Balmora that extra little uniqueness to it.

Now I may be completely wrong. These three mods may overlap one another and completely make another obsolete. If anyone could enlighten me upon this matter I'd appreciate it.

Also
I want feedback on the including of Unique Balmora heads. While it doesn't increase the overall look of all in game heads it does provide some good looking ones. Tradeoff though is that it is strictly for Balmora. I'm just unsure if it should still be up there or not. But until my first question of if enough people provide reasons why it shouldn't I'll leave it up.

Thanks and keep them coming guys!

You're basically right. Because Better Heads is an esm, any changes made by esps (like Unique Heads Balmora) will overwrite those made by Better Heads. They should all play well together. I've never used Unique Heads though, so I can't comment on the quality.

All of the mods have a txt. document or "ReadMe" included that'll show you where to put the folders. As long as you have basic computer knowledge you'll be fine.
Think of it as organizing music. You would put all your files in corresponding folders.

Music>Artist>Album>Song

Just make sure there's no duplicate folders such as;

Music>Artist>Album>Album>Song

It's all really self explanatory and pretty much drag on drop though. You'll be fine. ^_^

Only other thing I'm worried about is changing the look of the game too much or to something I don't like. I'm assuming it's easy to uninstall the mods too, right?

Well most of the mods include screen shots of what it changes before hand. So be sure to take a look as to which ones you want before installing. If you wish to uninstall it just either go to you downloads and find the folder, or re-download it again and look to see what's in the mods folder.

Having your game's folder open along side the mods folder you can find exactly what it is you installed and delete it from the game. This will likely cause some error options to pop up during loading the game but that's solved with a save and re-load.

I never really liked many of the choices that were made in this mod as compared to Better Heads. Although this one might cover more NPCS, because so many more heads were needed, I remember the quality varying alot, and some heads ended up sticking out alot, either because they were celebrity heads, or just of lower quality than the rest of the included heads.

At any rate, if other people want to compare and give their opinions so we can try to build the best list possible, as the OP wants, http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=994490 a link to a thread with pictures comparing Changing Faces, Better Heads, and a few other replacers.
