I'm addicted to Elder Scrolls

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:19 am

Modded Oblivion is the only game I don't seem to ever get tired of. I must have spent almost 2,000 hours on it by now. I haven't even beaten it (dead-is-dead, mods, personal rules make it a difficult game).

Daggerfall is one of the geatest games of all time. Just because it doesn't spoonfed you doesn't make it a bad game. Nor does the fact that it requires skill to win in combat, unlike Oblivion, where you hit every time. And really, Graphics don't factor into my gameplay at all, gameplay does. If I want graphics, I'll watch a film, if I want gameplay, I'll play a game. Also, I find the artwork and atmosphere of Morrowind superior to that of Oblivion, so, from one point of view, it doesn't necessarily have lesser graphics then Oblivion from the start-up. But then again, that's just my opinion.

I hope you try Daggerfall and Morrowind and reconsider. Both are a whole load of fun.

Morrowind is a good, popular game as well, so you should be able to find it for download somewhere on PC. Try Steam or something. I won't advise a Torrent because there illegal.

I see what you did there...

it doesn't require skill, it rquires luck and patience. daggerfall in an incredible and expansive game, groundbreaking for it's time, yes, but don't go defending it's broken combat system by todays standards

 Yes actually, you're probably right. That's why I signed up a couple years back, though I'm not as frequent as I used to be.

Morrowind is a good game if you're willing to put up with the first like 10 hours being nearly unplayable. Prepare to die when you get into a fight with a rat because youll be swinging a sword 40 times and never hit it once. Combat is terribly frustrating and boring throughout a good portion of the game. When you're just starting out, your character is so slow that it can take you 25 minutes to walk to some of your quests. You'll also be getting lost A LOT early on in the game, which becomes a game breaker because it can take you an hour just to get back to wherever you were before.

"I'm addicted to Elder Scrolls" Addicted seems like you're calling Elder Scrolls a drug, it's a lifestyle. ;)

The downside of Daggerfall is that it's terribly difficult to mod, especially considering most of us play it on DOSBox. Much like Morrowind, it's a game that seems ugly and unplayable for the first few hours. It takes time to open up.

That's Oblivion's greatest strength, I believe - it's immediately available to play from the get-go.

Erk, Oblivion's good, but so limitated ans boring compared to Morrowind. :P

Oh, and if you want to see what can be done with mods to the graphics, go watch the "places of Morrowind" videos on Youtube, and dare say this is uggly. :)

I have to agree that Oblivion did succeed with being instantly playable from the get-go. I did like how they did that, though I find the re-play value of OB's and FO3's tutorial "dungeon" is less when compared to Morrowind's, where you just get off a ship and answer a few questions.

"Hi, My name is Keelee..."
*"Hi! Keelee!"*
"And I am addicted to Elder Scrolls!"
*Applause; "Welcome"*

I have been so addicted to the games that I'm surprised I have managed to do anything else. I love them all, and with modded graphics on Morrowind, it is a really fantastic game. (although the file for the mod was freakin' huge...) There are a lot of things about the Elder scrolls games that other games just can't compare to. The immersivness especially and it makes me wish I could actually escape to Tamriel because really, I like my chances there far better than here. I can't even begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to TESV.... Really, I can't wait, I want it now!...... And my love of the series only increases my frustration with Bethesda for working on other games....... I liked Fallout.... but I don't want a Fallout game nearly as much as I want an Elder Scrolls game.

Yes, but with Oblivion's tutorial dungeon.... I could get through that thing in less than three minutes so the fact that it was so boring and repetitive really didn't matter once you got out of the prison. And there are mods that delay the start of the game and you can create your character without going through all the bull of the dungeon right off the bat; although as soon as you commit a crime you will start the tutorial quest and play through the Emperors death.

So you say you're addicted to Elder Scrolls, and go on to say you don't play Morrowind or Daggerfall because their graphics are dated? You're addicted to Oblivion, and it seems HDR and Bloom are you're injection needles. :nope:

Graphics can be a major turn off in this date where games can look like this.

My philosophy is TES games were targeted for best graphics like Crysis, it is just limitation of hardware. Now there is a project for Daggerfall, DaggerXL adding graphics capabilities.

It is not texture and model packs. It is just removing technical limitations. No game from 1996 would look this good even with technical improvements. Imagine it with a texture pack now. Bethesda was always a lightyear ahead with Daggerfall and Morrowind.

We all know about MGE. Perfect LOD. Perfect worldspace.

Those should feed people on all aspects.
