Addicts KEEP OUT!

Unless, it's alcoholism, of course! But we all know Nords can handle their booze anyway.

In reply to THEbloodymary77, "is there going to be addiction from some alchemical effects like FO3?", Pete Hines has tweeted "No. They aren't drugs like in FO3"

What do you make of this vague and choppy statement? To me, it doesn't exactly make sense but perhaps I am over-anolyzing. Regardless, it seems as though Pete is saying that there are drugs in Skyrim but that they don't have addiction effects like in Fallout 3. He doesn't confirm or deny whether there are none period or whether they are different than FO3's. Other interpretations can mean that he is saying no to both addictions and drugs or saying that there are drugs but no addictions.

What do you think? If there aren't any addictions period, how do you feel about no drug addictions? Do you want drugs in the game period, in addition to alcohol?

EDIT: I just realized that I spelled *CITIZEN* wrong in the title... nice! Sorry, everyone. <_<

I just think that alcohol has certain effects on you, but you don't get addicted

I read that as there will be drugs (like Skooma) but they won't cause you to become addicted when you "use" them like Fallout 3's drugs did.

If Skooma isn't in... I will find a way to make it.

Not that I'm... addicted or anything... >.>

I think Skooma is more like an alcohol but I suppose alcohol is still considered a drug, no?

Should I add an "indifferent" option as well? I wasn't sure if it was needed or not. Let me know. I see the "Get out of here!" options are popular, though. :celebrate:

At worst I think the substances should be in game, much like Morrowind's skooma and moon sugar.
At best I think they should program in various depressant and hallucinogenic effects, ranging from screen blur to intense color alteration and screen distortion.

But as for "addiction", I doubt the essence of addiction could be captured in a game mechanic. As a former addict, there's no abstraction for that intense sensation of "I don't want to do this... but I'm going to do it anyway".

I agree. And I am sorry to hear that, I have known many people with similar past issues as well, but I think that if there are drugs in the game there should be realism effects of that in the form of withdrawal -- should they become addicted to said drug. As annoying as it may have been, I thought it was a pretty interesting mechanic in Fallout 3.

Also, if there are drugs, I think that the effects of them that you have described would be a very interesting addition to the game! Especially the vibrant colours and alternated in-game screen perceptions.

"Skooma is an illegal narcotic substance which is manufactured from refined moon sugar. Skooma is an extremely addictive and hazardous stimulant and has been banned from some parts of Tamriel by order of the Empire."

"Skooma is smoked using skooma pipes or ingested without paraphernalia by drinking it in its liquid form. Moon Sugar can be eaten for a small kick."

Mmkay, I have read about it before. It's just one of those things that I've never been as interested enough in to remember.

Thanks!

Maybe for Skooma because that stuff's supposed to be bad, like corprus turned-into bad. (I'm not sure about this, but there was one quest in Morrowind involving a skooma-addict turned corprus stalker. Maybe they had him turn into a corprus stalker for effect?)

I would like some alcoholic staggering effects too, and maybe some screen effect with it. I just want it to do more than make you strong but dumb or something.
