Adding Armor to Skeletons

Post » Sat Jun 26, 2010 11:46 pm

I was just curious, is it possible to have skeletons to wear Armor or robes, using nifscope?

I want to make something like the armored skeleton in the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary.

In theory it is, but you may have issues of clipping because NifSkope won't let you delete part of a mesh unit. Usually the part of the body that is covered by armor is deleted from the body mesh in the modelling tool so that it can't poke through in extreme poses. If the armor is loose enough, that won't be a problem, but it might look strange that the armor is floating off the bones, instead of resting on them.

Also, a lot of armors have straps around body parts that fit the underlying body. Those would look silly on a skeleton, so your choice of pieces may be limited.

theVyper posted infinite posts about the same issue (if I get it well) before some good guy made something for him- http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/2411-trouble-rigging-an-armor-mesh/

Indeed I did! And it is difficult to add armor to skeleton without this happening: http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/7642/skeletonsmear.jpg<---- That happens because certain parts of the skeleton will be "attached" to the armor, so when the Skellie crumble, the armor stretches and distorts to remain "attached" to the crumbled parts. NateNeurotic from TES Alliance was kind enough to make a new skeleton.nif for me that won't crumble when "killed". here is a rather amusing death pose from the new Skellie: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1074/aninterestingdeathpose.jpg If you'd like, I'll ask NateNeurotic for permission to send his mesh to you for your use.

You can add the dark guardian armor and the blades helmet to any skeleton in the game i am pretty sure anyway. I placed dark guardians in my benirus manor basemant with the blades helmets and the patrol my secret room / treasure vault in the basemant. all i did was gointo the inventory of the dark gaurdian and it was a clickable option to add the blades helmet. The same thing goes for the undead blades in Sancre Tor. You can add the Dark Guardian armor to them aswell just by going into there character inventory edit screen.
