Adding a material and a texture to a model

Post » Thu Oct 22, 2015 4:12 pm

I thought I remember this, but apparently I don't. :P Trying to texture a model (using the default cube for testing). So here are the steps I make:

-click on the Shading tab and under "Links and Pipeline" I "add new"

-under newly appeared Material tab I check the TexFace option, set the colours to white/black/white (I think I remember this being done in a tutorial I can't find now), and under the Texture tab I add a new one here too, and under the Map Imput tab I switch it from Orco to UV.

-In the Texture Button tab I set the texture type to Image, and under the Image tab I add an image file

-in the UV view I click on the image button and add the image I previously added

-back in the model preview, in edit mode I unwrap the model, and in the Textured Draw Type model is normally textured.

-export this to a NIF file, with Morrowind checked

Now, I open the Nif file and do next:

-extend the 0 NiNode of the cube

-rightclick on the NiTriShape > Node > Attach Property > NiTexturingProperty

-rightclick on NiTexturingProperty > Texture > Add Base Texture

-In the texture field first I imput anything and confirm to enable texture choice, and then choose any texture from the Textures directory

Nothing happens, model stays gray. What did I miss?

Any help would be very appreciated! :)

Wazzup, Chaka. Are you sure that Morrowind is selected when you export the nif? You should not have to add the properties manually.

Oh, when you select the Image button, make sure that you actually select a texture file there too (doesn't have to be a texture file, actually - I often just select whatever file is in the folder I am exporting too, but I believe that you need to select SOMETHING). Setting an image in the UV window doesn't actually apply it to the model on export.

Yo yo Melch! I think I do, isn't that why it automatically offers me the image when I click on the image button in the UV view? I'll see if there's any other place where I can add the image to as soon as I get home from work, maybe I added it somewhere wrong and not where you're talking about, thanks for suggestion!

So, just to confirm, your image area looks like http://i.imgur.com/TZiSroy.png?
