I'm trying to add the perk Voracious Reader. I open the console and type: player.addperk 00c253

It doesn't work. I have the GOTY edition PC. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Because that perk is from a DLC (in this case Lonesome Road), the normal six digit codes *do not* work. There will ba an additional number tacked on the front which will be different depending on where in your load order the relevant DLC is located.

Check the Why do Form IDs from DLC packs start with "xx" ? section http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Form_IDs

For example, depending on where Lonesome Road is in your load order the code for Voracious reader could be something like 0300c253, 0400c253 or 0500c253

I already did that. It suggested clicking on the character to find out the beginning numbers. Mine was something like 0000000017. So I assumed 00 was correct? Can you help me? This is the part that doesn't make sense and I have no mods installed so I have no clue about load order. I really appreciate it.

So then I tried clicking on Dog and got the number 05 something.... So I tried player.addperk 05 00c253. No go. Then I tried variations: 0500c253 05 c253 05c253...etc. Nothing would work. I'm going nuts.

Can you tell me exactly how I would write this? Where the spaces go, what I should input? I'm probably missing something obvious here.

Dog is added by the Dead Money DLC, not Lonesome Road, so his Form ID will start differently.

The load order is shown by clicking on Data Files in the launcher.

Try all the options, (leaving out 0500c253 since you said you've tried it already) one at a time :

player.addperk 0100c253

" 0200c253

" 0300c253

" 0400c253

" 0600c253

Ok thank you. So there is no space in the numbers? I will do that, but it is confusing that the Wiki says to click on a character (I stupidly thought that meant me!) and Dog came up as 05. It should work as 05 right? But I'll do like you say. How far do I go up? Just in the 0s or ...?
