AddOnNode in CK - what it does?

There is section called AddOnNode under special effects in CK. Does anyone know what is it used for?

Mostly the smoke/flame/frost trails on projectiles. It's basically a way of tagging an additional NIF node onto any one of a number of different in-game models.
