Cosmetics only.
What a false perception of someone who think he's being pro using addons to get tactical info from other players. Give me a break, whats next, no clipping mode?
Almost makes me want to open a photobucket account so I can show you how clean my UI is and I have a load of mods installed.
It won't end. These people will still be here crying on each other shoulders, when the rest of us are playing the game in about a Month.
Not to any significant degree.
Your age and reflexes, your gear, your build, your gaming technology, your skill, how the fight started, your lag/latency/ping. All of those things have a far, far bigger impact than one or two more pieces of information. The only time an add on would make a difference is if it was a duel between 2 people with precisely identical builds with all the other factors pretty much the same. That is never going to happen in pvp in this game, a pvp that is really fast compared to thing like lotro.
As far as i'm concerned this game is competing to win customers from WoW/Conan/Lotro/Rift and all the other MMO's that encourage add-ons. They want to recoup their investment and make money .
This is a company that has made a huge investment in a highly competitive environment so they are not ceding add-ons as a competitive/marketing advantage to anyone. I'm pretty old and would be pretty crap even if i had a pair of flying sharks with laser beams on their heads modded in. But I want this game to be the place competitive players bring their gaming dollar over to. The more the merrier.
That's why they have explicitly created the capability to build these mods and game out of their way to encourage them.
It's not some big surprise that it can do the things it does. They designed it to do that. Do people think they didn't know?
Use them or don't use them.
Well, I think we have a right to complain, the votes look pretty clear to me! Please spare me your [censored] aswell...
"You're a naysayer, you know nothing of this type of game..."
"I'm a MMO veteran, I don't even need this information, I would own you without it..."
"This is an MMO, this isn't Skyrim online..."
I think the voting speaks for itself, even if it evens out, you'll still have a vast majority that wants it removed...
Yeah, the louder and more vocal the opposition is, the more those that don't care are going to fight back just because the haters are being obnoxious.
Its how it goes, really.
I don't care if people don't like addons. I do, if they're there I'm going to use them. /shrug
I'm gonna keep this handy, if you don't mind...
My favorite part of this picture: FPS 8
LOL
I think the problem is that most either doesn't care or they want addon but think it might have gone too far in what the addon could do as shown in some video. However, the problem keep circle round and round by both party that they always denies the opposite opinion and use extreme cases to 'demonstrate' a point which aggravate the opposite party more.
Nobody wants to take away your ui mods as long as it stays reasonable and the line is different for lots of people.
Sad part is, I used most of the same mods that guy's using in that screenshot and my UI looked nothing like that. NOTHING.
So much of that clutter he could have turned off... And yes, the FPS was... most epic. Looked like he was running on a toaster.
I recognized Xperl, DBM, the buff frame that escapes my mind.. I used to use it(that long list of blue bars just to the left of the minimap), Grid, Bartender and it looks like shock and awe.
Good lord. I raided in TBC with a monitor at 800x600 and REALLY BIG XPERL frames(I'm legally blind) but my UI looked nothing like that. I like being able to see what I'm standing in.
I think part of what people aren't understanding is that the guys using them aren't cheating. The information is available.
Cheating implies using something that they're not supposed to have access to to gain an advantage. Doping your horse to win a race. Things like that.
All of the information that's available in an addon is available through the API to your client, whether or not you have it displayed on screen or not. And the interrupt thing is most certainly part of the default UI. You can toggle it on and off.
Should have? Lol, they'll have to have the same mods as me if they want to beat me. When you're talking specifically about the top 1% you're talking about a whole different game. You can boast about how naturally skilled you are, but the fact remains that my mods will flash a counter-skill the exact second you trigger any ability. You can try and read my visual cues, but I will have your timers by the millisecond. You cannot cloak from me because my game will know to look for everything that doesn't register as a tree/prop/npc/ and target it as a cloaked player. You can never flank me. You can never fake me. If you want to be in the top ranks you can only svck it up and run my mods or more, and then pray your reflexes are faster than mine.
@ reflexes, have me beat. I end up panic and usually miss key something. Even w/ 5+1 & 2 bars .. still greater chance I'll goof up. And that's not even comparing to your level of play.
Not true unless you're referencing a prodigious disparity.
