Adequate PC based on spending limits?

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 1:24 am

It would be so helpful if someone technically inclined could make some general suggestions for what myself and perhaps others should look for in a computer. Basically I spilled coffee and would like to get a better PC anyways

It's time to upgrade but let me just be blunt about it, if I were spending $350-$500 on a tower (running HDMI to a flatscreen TV) can someone help me please and link to a couple of example computers? If you feel extra motivated feel free to recomend for other price ranges like 200$ and $500+ for others who might also find this with similar questions.

I don't want to walk in just thinking more is better on every spec come to find (or remain ignorant) that I have sacrificed so much because there is so much stuff on the tower that has nothing to do with Online gaming (ESO) and general web browsing.

Thank you for helping with my question - thanks !!!

P.S. I found out an HDMI cable works from this laptop to a flatscreen like 2 days ago, so simple, if anyone has not tried that and has an HDMI output from a PC or laptop it might be worth checking out

Let me be blunt in return, if you're looking at prebuilt computers, you will have problems finding one for 500$ that would run ESO nicely.

Were you to put some of your time into this and learn to process of putting computer components together, you would get so much more for your money.

I don't usually recommend buying consoles, but at that price point, The xbox one would give you far superior graphics compared to a computer, prebuilt even more so.

Dont buy a pre built computer, youre paying so much more than if you did it yourself... And its easy as long as you can turn a screwdriver.

For $500, you could build your own and have a dedicated graphics card.

go to walmart and get the dell they have atm costs 499.99. Then go to best buy and upgrade the graphics card (top upgrade available for the comp is 174.99. Before I got my alienware I did that and was able to run world of warcraft and all games ive ever played on max graphics.

I have actually always wanted to build my own.

I hope I am not asking to much, is there a generic or general guideline of what parts that would work moderately? And seachase I am entertaining that as well if I can't figure out how to build

Operating System:

Processor:

Memory:

Hard Disk Space:

Video Card:

NEVER EVER buy a prebuilt computer and definetly not from walmart here is a simple computer you can build for yourself on the AMD side of the house that will run this game remarkably well.....

Motherboard Gigabyte 990FXA UD 5 or UD 7 i run 7 myself

Ram 16 gigs of Corsair DDR3 ram

Processor AMD PHenom Black 1000+ series

Power Supply there is an amazingly excellent power supply on Amazon for about 50 bux it is an 800 or 850 watt supply and runs great

Hard drive you can buy a WD blue hard drive for a decent price or you can spend a bit more and buy a SSD SSD is the much better option of course you should only need a 1 TB hard drive for your interior hard drive 1TB hard drives are far stabler than 2 and 3 TB drives just make sure its a 7200 RPM

Graphics card I recommend a Geforce 650 or 660 if ur budget is low both of these perform great I wouldnt go any lower but honestly there really isnt a need for a 700+ either

Case and this is a must have its called Apevia Xdreamer 4 it comes in multiple color choices and is an absolutely amazing case

if you have any further questions on this feel free to contact me on the forums

little secret about pre build computers most ppl dont want you to know......MOST prebuilt computers are built with older parts and they charge you WAY more than what the parts are worth not to mention most prebuilts are custom for their own types of parts andvery hard to upgrade, its actually REALLY easy to build your own computer and I REALLY recommend it

To each their own, but most dells are integrated graphics only boards, which means you cant add a dedicated graphics card. Additionally, the power supplies are not suitable for an additional graphics card.

Go to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com, and check out their "barebones kits".

If you have no parts to reuse from old computers, it does get a little more expensive.

What youll need:
Motherboard, processor, ram, video card, computer case, power supply, drives (hard drive, cd drive, etc).

I also use Amazon when im looking for specific pieces or to price match. However, they dont do barebones kits as far as im aware of. I havent had to do a budget build in 10 years.

Barebone kits are ok but honestly for example the Xdreamer case is amazing and when you get a case this good its really hard ot justify a barebones

As I don't live in the States and I'm not that familiar with all the best price points, I'm not that good at doing budget builds.

But something along the lines of this build would work quite well.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zmank/saved/#savedbuild_933525%C2%A0

That would be a really good place to start.

If the budget would be bumped up from 500$ to about 700$, you would see some significant gains.

And I second the combo above.

This one is good.

I would just replace the 7770 with a 7850 the price is almost the same.

16 GB of RAM is overkill, the game runs on max with 4GB...

I have a: i5 2500k CPU, 4GB ram, a 4y old Ati Radeon 6970 and i was able to max it during beta, well i kept shadows on low and view distance at like half or something...

So get a decent AMD quad core CPU as they are pretty cheap, much cheaper compared to an Intel CPU, 4 GB of RAM and any card that in a benchmark is better than mine and you will max this....

Don`t worry about SSD`s the game has good load time - its no SWTOR where you wait 30s with a normal HDD - and get a MB that fits the CPU you pick and will be good to go.

EDIT: What was posted above is good you can try that.

Cant beat that for $15 after $15 mail in rebate AND free shipping. Comes with a fan or two and usb 3.0 plugs in the front.

Mobo/processor, $200, ram $70, video card $180, power supply $45 ($25 after mail in rebate and has solid power on the 12v line), case for $30 ($15 after MIR). Final cost $490 plus shipping after mail in rebate if you are able to reuse your old hard drive and windows, and thats a SOLID computer on a budget

Add an aftermarket cooler, like the cm hyper 212 evo (if it fits the case) for 30$ and you can overclock that CPU for some much needed CPU power and you're golden.

your forgetting 1 thing like i said i build to be relevant for the next 5 years now in response to the person above me the few of them.......

most of the parts on this list are really outdated like for example the first list the 970 mobo

as far as gskill ram I cant vouch for its quality

the graphics card is decent but its 128 bit rather than 256 bit

thermaltake psu isnt bad

now as far as the case sorry no way im pickin that case thats not a good cooling case go with the xdreamer hands down I have never had an xdreamer go over 30 C case temp, not part temp CASE temp

personally one of the biggest pieces you need to focus on is the case a good airflow case is worth its weight in gold specially since the stronger our GPU's get or graphics card the hotter they tend to run hotter

I dont think you get that this is supposed to be a budget build. The FX is an extremely good processor for budget builds. A 6 core processor at 4.1ghz is hardly a slouch. If you dont believe me, go look at the benchmarks on Tomshardware. The GPU listed doesnt generate much heat. If you dont overclock, you dont need a high end case with this setup.

Its ok to be a computer snob (I know I am), but remember, not everyone has the money to build a high end system.

I am not trying to be a snob, your suggestion was outdated

the FXA 990 UD 3 5 7 is a far superior motherboard to the 970 for the same exact price

the Phenom black Series processor is actually superior to the fx and isnt the fx series processor the APU processor? I dont remember off the top of my head and on pain killers. the APU arent very good for gaming

the Geforce GTX 660 TI 2 GB is a 256 bit card and runs less than the 700 series card its very powerful and very relevant

the PSU like I said thermaltake is fine

and CASE is the one place you definetly dont want to skimp on a bad case = fried computer and then your back to square 1 airflow is very important
