Adjusting textures with GIMP & exporting

Post » Sun Apr 05, 2015 9:00 pm

I've been experimenting with some of the ground textures in GIMP. Just changing the color schemes to something that might be more palatable, nothing major. Anyways, when I export the file out as a DDS[the original is DDS too] it loses its icon. In the image below, the file I altered is the last one, Tx_BC_Scum.

Then, when I get in game the texture I altered has a very grainy look from a distance. Only when I get closer does it look normal.

Here's the picture (all of the files are DDS btw so their icons should all show up):

Any ideas on how I can prevent this from happening?

I know this is the problem because I've done it with multiple textures and the same thing happens with all of them.

Create the DDS with Mipmaps. And since it has no alpha (transparency), export it as DXT1, otherwise as DXT5.

I almost forgot, there seems to be issues with GIMP and mipmaps. Here's the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/792864-how-to-make-textures-thread/?p=23923893 about it.
