Adopt Bryan Wilks!

This adds dialogue to Bryan Wilks, letting you adopt him. He is voiced using re-purposed vanilla sound files. There is currently no speech, disposition, karma, or other checks. You can adopt him starting at the point where you look for a place for him to live. If you have already placed him in a home, you can go there and adopt him from there. If you sold him, you're out of luck.

You can adopt him starting at quest stage 60, when looking for a place to live. You can also adopt him after you've placed him in a home, if you've done this in a saved game already, but not if you sold him to Paradise Falls.

His new dialogue is voiced using vanilla kid voices.

Dialogue options:
  • Adopt him, if not already adopted.
  • Set a home (as in, your own player residence. This is for return purposes when firing him)
  • Fire him, with choice to send him to:
    ---a player-specified home (this option isn't available until you've shown him where your home is, above).
    ---any home you got permission for BEFORE adopting him (Vera or Lamplight; current version doesn't allow seeking a new home after player adoption)
    ---Grayditch home
  • Hire him, if fired.
  • Wait.
  • Follow.
  • Trade inventory.

FUTURE PLANS
  • His greeting after adoption is kind of bland, always saying one thing. I will add more greetings in future versions.
  • Future versions will also allow you to ask Vera/Lamplight/Paradise Falls to take him after a previous placement or adoption.
  • I plan to add more AI packages, like having him sweep and tidy up when fired at the player-home.
  • I also plan to have some basic training, like teaching him to fight (right now he is cowardly, as a kid would be.) This may involve watching you kill ants until he learns Entomologist and some confidence.

Requirements:
===============

Fallout 3 Patch 1.7

===============
Install:
===============

1. Extract the files from the archive.
2. Copy files to (install folder)\Fallout 3\Data\
3. Start Fallout 3 Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the .esp file.

===============
Un-Install:
===============

1. Start Fallout 3 Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the .esp file.
2. Delete the files/folders associated with the mod.

===============
Compatibility:
===============

This adds a script to Bryan, and modifies the MS04 quest script to add some variables.
As far as I can tell with FO3edit, the Unofficial Patch does NOT touch this quest script, so it should be fine.

Gifts4Kids has a special Bryan part; this works, but not while he is adopted or living at the player house; only while he is living alone, with Vera, or LL, or has been fired to one of the above. Gifts4Kids checks the quest status and I use those same flags, changing them to track where he is staying currently. Gifts4Kids doesn't check on this mod's new "stayplayer" variable.

Sounds awesome. And recycling the original voice acting is always a nice touch. :)

Never heard of this 'Game For Wilks' mod though, where can I find it?

I lost Bryan!!

I told him to wait and I got carried away :whistling: (Broken Steel final quest). I tried to use the console but I can't seem to find the right id. I tried moveto and placeatme commands. So far the only positive result is Bryan showing up in his old clothes, like I never adopted him. Does this mean I have to walk all the way back there and catch up with him? (I use a No Fast Travel plugin :cryvaultboy: ).

This adventure made me think that it would be really nice to have some way to call him back, like the Whistle for Dogmeat you did. The "Sydney Follower" plugin uses a radio to communicate with her, I thought that was clever and immersive.

Other than that I can't wait for any update, you have interesting new ideas going on, great work! :goodjob:

EDIT: Ok, found him, he was back in Rivet City, walking the decks.

I could add a radio or recall item but to be honest I've taken to using Remote Control Companions PLUS -FOSE version. It lets you add any companion to its list and then you have a central place to command, recall, etc.

Didn't know about this one, thank you, I'll check into it.
