Advance Settlement Techniques - for those who care

For those who care, found a nice video on advance building techniques for those who may need help for things and haven't found any answers. For console people, pay attention to the end on how to clip structures through things. PC people have console commands to bypass this, but this helps show the console way.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't know about the foundation blocks or the clipping trick. That's opened up so many options for me.

I didn't know about a lot of this as well. I knew foundation blocks help clipped some things but I didn't know it would clip an entire structure. I have been trying to build a house at Finch Farm on one of the highway struts so I could have a top level with an ocean view.... It was frustrating because I literally had to build a spiral stair case on the outside of the strut with a large gap. Even died while trying to build it. Now this will help me clip the stairs closer and build a better structure up top. Because ocean views are awesome for a house.

Awesome video, I might actually be able to build a single decent looking settlement now. Thanks!

The clipping trick can be used in other ways too. Want to put that Nuka Cola machine next to your ice machine, but the stupid back of the machine isnt nice and flat like the ice machine, so it looks silly? Easy fix. Put down a small floor mat, then put the Nuka Cola machine on top of the rug. When you move the rug, the machine will move as well, but the game uses the rugs clipping, not the machines. Viola! you can clip it as far into a wall as the rug will allow, then just store the rug in the workbench and the machine will sit where it was. The only thing I've noticed is that when you do this, the object you place on the rug tends to drop a few inches into the floor after you rip the rug out from under it. Fine for most things, but it looks kind of silly when you do it with certian lamps and couches and such...

I see so many threads on settlements that I think Bethesda has got to improve on this feature, maybe with patches or free/paid add-ons. They apparently didn't put too much effort on it thinking it was all optional gameplay. But gamers seem to be loving it, even in its current primitive form.

I built a structure so high on Nordhagen Beach that I could have knocked on the door of my neighbor the Pryden and asked for a cup of sugar XD fantastic view! <3

Nice I didn't know about the foundation block trick. Useful bit of info. I hope Beth don't patch that one.

I've done the rug thing a couple of times. I just used it to put a couple of containers that I was moving from one house to another better built house that I made after finding out all these tricks.

I know! Really! Now I want to start a new toon, just so I can use these techniques. Hmm... maybe I will. :)

Either that or scrap my entire settlement and start again! That would work too.

I love the whole building thing. Of course the settlers would be slightly pissed, but it wouldn't be for long. They'd get over it.

I only have 7 out of 30 settlements, so i'll just scrap a few other settlements i'll find and build something awesome. Attached to some sort of tree or strut or something.

I wish that the build height limit was higher for the Covenant and no so restrictive.

Love that clipping trick! Btw is the height restriction different for every settlement? I've only tried to build high on sanctuary so far and it chucks me out of the workshop when i hit four storeys

But there isn't a diverse amount of building components so a any settlement building advice is almost moot. Hell we don't even have metal stairs or floors.

Just wanted to add( since I've seen it mentioned nowhere ) that you can identify what settlers are assigned to what but it requires two things. 1. Be in build mode 2. highlight the settler, they will light up green and so will whatever they have been assigned to, granted its within viewing distance.

Would really love a mod that adds more prefab structures or allow you to save a structure you own/made as a prefab structure with all the furniture inside.

The first 3 towns were great fun to make nice buildings and such. The 10th one... not so much.

Really wish you could do a little more with the workshop like being able to move dead bodies out of your house. Ex; trying to make changes and patch some spots on a house and dead bodies are in the way. It's killing me lol.

You could try using console commands to remove them (markfordelete).
