Advanced acrobatics in Brink

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:28 am

We've all seen the trailer at the beginning when a guy does a back flip aerial off a wall to avoid a missile right. So my question to you is who would love to be able to actual do something like that in the final game? I know i would!!! So I created a poll to find out who agrees with me.

im betting you can. maybe only front or back not both.
you can probably run up a wall and then jump and it might stylize it with a flip.
anyway, you can wall run which isnt the easiest thing in the world (not up, sideways) so i dont see why not. only reason i really see why not is so people dont get all motion sick and stuff (vertigo? is that it, or is that underwater?).

i think it could work, with moar keys to do with smart, but like mulie said people could get motion sickness ect from the game. So mabey you should have to unlock, or enable them?

I'm having a hard time seeing how it would be useful though. In the trailer it's only implemented to look cool, from a first person perspective, it would be close to impossible to time it right in order to avoid a missile like that.

While it would be sweet, I would consider it fluff and wouldn't use it. I can't see where you could implement it and not leave yourself at a disadvantage.

As previously stated, there would be no use for the ability and would be pointless for the developers to spend time fine tuning it, while they could be using that time to make sure everything else in the game is well balanced.

I'm against it.

They didn't put in a rol because they wanted you to be able to fire while doing your moves.
Besides, if you're doing a flip, you'll get pwned bigtime. Your screen will just be blurry, you won't see the enemy and when you land you will be disorientated.

I completely agree on this one.

This. The smart system is about effective and quick movement, not flashy acrobatics. Although it would be awesome to backflip over a rocket.

ahem
You run into a dead end as a light with a guy right behind you.
You pull off a backflip from this dead end right as he is about to slam into you leaving you in a position from which to execute a stab.
You could have done this with bullets as well but what's the point in that?

Whatever, it could be fun and maybe a bit practical but if you consider that there are few situations where it is practical it may not be worth it to implement at all.

You forget one thing, while you're doing your fancy backflip, I just turn 180°. If I'm medium skilled, I'll keep shooting you while you perform your backflip.

Nah I rather do a 180 wallhop to backstab, I can do both these moves irl and backfliping above a person is nearly impossible (for me) wall-hopping would be more practical and you could do the whole move manually, the whole idea of Brink is that there is no auto pilot. Backfliping steals your control a wall-hop consists of three easy steps jump jump turn then stab, deceivingly simply huh.

Flipping around is probably the least practical thing you can do in a firefight...along side doing absolutely nothing. :banghead:

I wouldn't mind seeing a leveling system for acrobatics, but I'm thinking more along the lines of increase speed and height. Leveling up acrobatics would eventually allow you scale tall buildings quicker and with less path finding.

I hope they don't have garbage like that in the game. i hope they leave at least three decently sized surprises for the release date, things that we wouldn't have seen coming.

No. It's meant for climps, leaps, slides, and sprint. Not "Look at me I can do a meaningless backflip while I get shot!" I'm not sugarcoating it so forgive me if I come off blunt.

Sorry to kill the party but there is a 105% chance of these moves not being in the game(with a 5% margin of error) for balancing reasons.

If it was 3rd person it would be great, but it's first person and I don't want to have to pick the chunks out of my controller. So no.

Parkour running. When I get the game, one of the things I have planned is getting a bunch of friends together and just free running through the map.

I think that would be unnecessary because either way your going to get dizzy depending on how fast your preforming the spin then you'll get shot and finally fall on your ass like a brick after getting bullet wounded in the air. This isn't the Matrix and I would doubt that you could dodge every single bullet that are flying toward you while you're in the air as if your characters were Agent Smith from the Matrix. I could only imagine that flips would be useful if it was use like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AANMlPVBncQ, however there would be a lot of major cons if you try performing flips off a wall.
