Advice from Beta Veterans

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 9:06 am

Sadly, I missed out on the opportunity to play in the beta. For those of you who are "beta veterans", what advice can you give me about jumping in with both feet and making the most out of my starting days on ESO? Is there anything that you think that I should try to do right away, keep in mind, or be wary about in the beginning days? Can you draw on your beta experience to help a girl out?

Play aldmeri dominion. We have the best brothels. Jokes aside, the game's options can be overhwleming at first, so i suggest taking ur time gettng used to the mechanics especially if you arent used to the elder scrolls games compass interface. Be wise on where you spend your initial skillpoints to unlock abilities since it will make early game a lot easier since i dont think you can re-spec your skill points till you finish the level 5-15 area.

Unlocking early bag upgrades post level 6 might be helpful on your early adventures since inventory space can be a pain and sometimes you have to be selective about what you loot , else you run out of bag space easily.

Crafting is great in this game , so upgrading your gear every few levels will help a lot.Cant think of anything else right now for early game.

Hi hon! Welcome to the party! Best advice I can give you is just put on blinders, ignore what everyone else is doing and just set out on your adventure and have fun. Check under every rock, seek adventure in out of the way places, don't be afraid to explore. The best way to know if you're doing it right is to keep a hand mirror by your computer and check it periodically... if you ahve a smile on your face, you're doing great!

1) Look at online sites to get an idea of what class has what base abilities, since these you can't change where weapons/armor you can.

2) Racials are still being shuffled and tweaked, pick a race you enjoy the look of for now.

3) Place a skill in each of your class skills early and put on hotbar, even if you don't use the skill, the skill line will increase this way.

4) Loot as much as you can stomach, break down gear you don't need since they(npc shops) only buy for a pittance anyhow.

5) Pvp can be rough, I personally plan to wait until lvl 15 for weapon swap ability to cover both melee and ranged options.

After the opening tutorial, when you're dropped into the main city for your Alliance, talk to the NPC who can take you back to the starter island and get some easy exp and quests there.... besides that, the starter islands are fun!

I wouldn't spent lvl points for armor types. It is better use for one type armor if you know which one you will play as me I will play on Templar and use two types weapons so only need heavy armor.

And join Ebonheart!

Loot everything in cold harbour as there's loads of useful stuff like recipes, lockpicks, materials and more. Also when you craft, the materials in your bank can be used just like they are in your actual inventory. Another, feed your horse at the stables. You can feed it to increase its stats like inventory size, speed and training takes 20hrs if I remember correctly, do it as soon as you can.

Do, do the starter islands as there's loads of skyshards and lots of materials to be gathered in an area that's pretty tame and will help you learn the ropes.

You don't have to spend points to level armor, you can just wear it and level them through use.

As tempting as it is to sell everything you collect, hold off on it. Running quest lines will give you enough gold to play with in the beginning. Use the materials you find/loot/harvest and make use it for your own crafting. If you have materials that aren't for what you craft, try trading your unneeded crafting materials with others for what you do need.

Harvest EVERY node you can. Breaking those down not only give you a great amount of crafting materials, you also gain items that give you a chance to improve your items your making.

Sacrifice armor and weapons early on in the game to learn off of (In crafting). You lose out on the item, but you learn the items skill early and it becomes a great help.

Leveling with a group makes leveling much quicker due to quests, and you gain more money and use less resources.

Snakes/Spiders/Rats/Lightning bugs all give you fishing bait.

When opening chests, let go of your mouse right before the lock jiggles. Any later and you have to start over of you break your lock pick.

Whenever your screen locks up in a dialog, type /reloadui. As a matter of fact, when anything funny happens, type /reloadui. Fixes most issues.

I was mainly referring to just having them equipped to get rank ups in them. Most builds (all imo) benefit from a 5/2 set up with 2 armor types, so starting right out of the gate can make you flexible in the long run.

Instead of having to use /reloadui, just use the mail key <'>, that will fix it without having to relaod anything.

The bolded can not be stressed enough. Play at your own speed and don't rush. Contrary to alot of the big noise out there, the game won't be going anywhere anytime soon so take your time.

Don't be in a rush to spend your skill points. Hold onto them until you are at a level where a skill opens up that you really want.

Don't be afraid to look at putting skills into the other 2 tiers of a class, and don't forget to look at armor/weapon skill choices. But hold off until that skill suits your needs.

By level 20, if you got all the skills you require up to that level, start looking at putting skills into crafting. you will have enough to go around, depending how wise you were when spending them to begin with.

Also....start researching ealry on in the game for chosen crafts. In the level 20 area you wil require 3 learned traits to be able to craft special items in the specialized crafting areas dotted around the region.

I think the level 10-20 area requires 2 traits.

Don't be afraid to jump into the PVP at level 10....it will break up that PVE run nicely. But don't spend too long there unless you are an avid PVPer as you will gain XP & level past PVE content. I believe they may have a togggle to disallow XP gains in PVP, so if thats there you have the option to use it.

Last but not least. Play the game at your own pace & have fun.

If you are seeking to craft: Blacksmith creates Heavy Armor and Weapons, Clothier makes Light and Medium armor.

I have found that you make plenty of money from quests and quest turn ins: Research greens for traits for armor, do not sell them. In addition if you have a green with a trait you already know then break it down; these provide components to upgrade the gear you craft since you can only craft white quality gear. Items must be upgraded, and the only way that I know how to get the mats to upgrade is from like quality items.

Therefore every gear piece you loot or receive as a reward that you are not wearing turn into crafting materials.

Also don't feel compelled to "always spend a skill point" just because you have them. Sometimes it's okay to just wait until something you actually -want- unlocks.

You're going to want Medium as well in a pure stamina build, and light if you want to be able to heal at any point. With 7 pieces, wear 5 heavy and keep a medium and light in the other spots to keep your skill up.

na, not completely true. My caster uses 5 light armor and 2 heavy. I put some points in heavy just to get the bonuses for armor and spell resist and health regen in battle. You get over 300 skill points throughout the game, so why not?

NEVERMIND, I read your post wrong.

Make sure you go back to the starter island. If you don't, you'll be too low leveled to complete some quests.
