Advice with restarting...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:27 pm

Hey guys.

Some of you will know about my character, Lissa. Well I have decided to restart her adventure as I am nit happy with one of her majors.

As im capping her her current majors I mainly use are Marksman, Blunt and Light armour.

Im fine with marksman and blunt, as it is important to her history and backround, but I would like to change her light armour major to one of the below:

Restoration - restoration is in her blood, and her journal explains why.

Conjuration - she recently visited chorrol and is studying under a conjuration trainer, however I dont think she will get far, but she enjoys what benefits conjuration has.

Alchemy - during her travels she relied on drinks and meals she made from raw ingredients, so she would be quite skilled im this. But it levels too fast and I want to keep her at a pace.

Armourer - when on her travels she had to.repair her armour/wepons herself.

And

Athtletics - she spends most of her time travelled, and she loves running!

We cant decide what she should choose. What would you reccomend?

Any questions about Lissa to help you give advice are welcome.

Thanks :)

Helena, of course, advises Restoration.

It's quite a good major skill because it's the slowest levelling skill in the game too. Plus, it has many useful effects, especially when used with Conjuration.

Hmm... I was thinking about restoration a minuite ago, with it being slow and useful at the same time, seeing as her mother is a master of restoration...

I agree in recommending restoration based on what it seems you are trying to do. It is slow to level and, through a variety of means including potions, can be even further slowed if desired.

Yeah, I think restoration would be the better choice.
When I had light armour it levelled too fast, like, stupidly fast, so I thought a change which kept with her history would be better, since she is leaving the decision in my hands! Haha

She's stubborn, but she's not good with difficult decisions :D

If Lissa ever bumps into Helena, she'll get suggested the Arcane University :P That is, of course, if Lissa hasn't done it already.

I usually make Armorer a major, or it just takes too long before I can repair enchanted equipment. The exception to that requirement would be a pure mage, but I might still do so, to have it as a "never use" skill to limit level growth.

Restoration is slow, and I like to be able to use Fortify Magicka as a spell component at level 50, so that's another major candidate.

Mercantile starting at 25 also means you're getting a fair deal on worn items, and have a good start toward selling anything to anyone.

All the other skills are either easy to raise by practice, or by being used normally. If you want to cap a character at a low level, you'd want to have their preferred skill as major, so that they reach 100 as soon as possible, before their overall level is too high, but if there's a second skill that's equally used (e.g. an Archer may use Marksman and Alchemy a lot) then make the other a minor, or that idea won't work out. The idea is to start the skill as high as possible, get as much of your 10 at each level in that skill as possible, and stop having it contribute to character level as soon as you can. If a second major skill makes you level up too often, that's not a good mix.

Do you want to limit her strength, health or magicka at all?

Well my current capped majors are blunt, which she gets a bonus in anyway, being a redguard, and she has marksman, as she is an archer, and light armour, which she also jas a bonus in.

But I want to change light armour to restoration to suit her story.

I want her strength to be quite high and her magicka fairly high, but health at an average

She hasnt really considered the mages guild, but seeing as she is extremely interested in conjuration, it may be a good plan for her. Ill have to ask her :)

She told me that she would like to see Helena more often, so maybe that'll help convince her :P

Restoration is easily the best option for you. Don't forget to keep studying Conjuration though, come to the Arcane University and Sabarel can give you a few lessons in both. The advantages of Restoration being one of the slowest to level along with the wide range of choices it gives you just makes it out weigh the other choices.

However if you feel confident Alchemy can give you some different choices aswell.

I did a brief test last night on a pure Alchemy character (that is, no damaging skills other than Alchemy as a major). I powered her up to level 6 (spamming Alchemy from the farms outside Skingrad and Chorrol) and went dungeon crawling. It's easy. All those poisons and potions you can make leave you prepared for literally every eventuality.

Just saying that Alchemy doesn't need to have the "terrible major" tag, attached to it.
