I'm afraid future Fallout titles will be dumbed down.

Well maybe because call of duty has very good single player campaing? Its made purely into that game. No wasted seconds into lame stuff, just pure action.

And this is why we can't have nice things.

I'm sure they'll be dumbed down too but I gotta ask, how could they be dumbed down more?

The skills are already just 13, dumbing that down more would make no sense.
SPECIAL is already dumbed down to the point where all it has to go is up.
Speech is already dumbed down by having it's skill checks being visibile.
Economy is already dumbed down by having a simplistic barter system where everything's up for trade.
Perk choosing is already dumbed down by having the ratio be 1:1 or 1:2.
Traits are dumbed down.
Combat is dumbed down.
Using skills on items (like Science on a computer in the old games and Science on a computer in the new games) is dumbed down by showing you way too bluntly that "THIS ITEM CAN BE ACTIVATED!! HERE IS A POP UP TELLING YOU WHAT YOU NEED!!"

So really, how could it possibly get dumbed down even more?
I'm scared too but honestly, unless Bethesda is completely incompetent and has a collective IQ of 4 then Fallout's game mechanics has nowhere to go but up.

He definitely pushed his boundaries, when it was minor things it was more believable.

People like him are just a myth.....right?

Sad yet comforting at the same time.

Well pure action isn't always bad.
Look at Borderlands, Team Fortress or Left 4 Dead.
Sure they all have a form of "storyline" to them but the point of the games isn't story-centric but to in Borderlands shoot things with cool guns, in TF2 to use tactics and kill people with cool guns and in Left 4 Dead kill tons of infected and make it to the end of the map using traditional while still cool guns.

So I can understand that perspective and admit that sometimes it's good for something to not be dragged down with a storyline when the gameplay doesn't really need one.
But I can't say that it's good what so ever for an RPG. (And Borderlands is an action game with minor RPG elements to it, not a full fledged RPG.)

Why should fallout become another fps or pure action game when they're are plenty enough out there to satisfy a fps gamer and the like.

Nah. Bethesda made best writing in fallout 3 and im sure they will improve it in fallout 4.

Also skyrim was huge improvement from oblivion so im sure fallout 4 will take same leap from fallout 3 if possible as fallout 3 is nearly perfect game.
You are their target audience.
Yes.

NallePuh even though I know you are just trying to bait people here, it's kinda funny. You *are* the target audience after all.

I hope they at least keep everything (re-)established in FNV such as reputation, crafting, mods, hardcoe mode, strength requirements and armor classes. I'd just hate to see Fallout become Skyrim and have 1,000 dungeons and 100 companions all with no story depth or game impact.

To be honest, I loved Fallout 3, New Vegas, but not so much Skyrim or Oblivion.
They have different people working on each franchise(sounds like a given, but you'l be surprised), and i doubt people from Obsidian could just say to their bosses, "Yeah, just going to nip across the country and do some work on Fallout 4".
And i really dont see how Fallout 3's writing's bad, what defines bad writing? Generic plot(which i dont think FO3 had)? Unbelievable characters(which again, FO3 had none of).
Not trying to start an argument, but half of the people that disliked FO3 were the "dinosaurs". And im guessing, one of the only reasons you didnt like it is because it was so different from your sacred FO1 and FO2. Which im guessing, if you went back and played it again now, and really went in to it, it really wouldnt have the best writing in the world either.

Fo3 doesn't necessarily have bad writing, it's just that it was rather short and the story in general was rather meh. The enclave shows up, shooting you for no reason!

FONV however took the term "rpg" and stayed true to role playing and fallout itself. Realistic questions? Check! Believable responses that are informative and not pathetic? Check! Great humor? [censored] yeah check!!!!

Well maybe because call of duty has very good single player campaing? Its made purely into that game. No wasted seconds into lame stuff, just pure action. Just like in the 80-90`s movies where there was lots of explosions and they didnt try to forcefully put any lame "lovestories" stuff etc..
After reading that I felt a little ashamed to even read this thread....

It would sadden me greatly to see this happen to the series. I honestly don't know what game I will play if this is what happens.
Bethesda, don't do me wrong. New players aren't as important as loyal ones. If this is what happens to the series... I don't really know what I'm going to do, seeing that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled.

I felt the same.

Fallout 3 already dumbed down the series. It is a great game after all, but if they go down that path the series will die for me.
I'm glad that third person and V.A.T.S. was included, otherwise it would just have been another FPS settled in the fallout universe with a decent story.

You're joking, right? Fallout 3 couldn't have been a more "dumbed-down" regression from the first two games. What does it even matter if future Fallouts are dumbed-down? The damage has already been done. Unless Obsidian or another company are put in charge the franchise reached the bottom of the barrel the instant Todd Howard touched it.

Yep agree with the dumbed-down it already happening, does not matter where the title lands up in action, First-person, RPG, or other. They all are turning into hack/slash games only. I dont mind a good hack/slash game, but in a RPG I want to roleplay. I'm finding more and more RPG's have less roleplaying in them and more just hack/slash. I think true RPG games died when the year 2000 hit.
For me I would love for Fallout to keep the hacking/slashing and shooting, but at the same time please for crying out loud. I bought this game to roleplay too....
