I am afraid of Mutant Suiciders

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:51 am

Super mutant suiciders are one of easiest enemies to kill in FO:4. As far as gameplay goes they are a bit silly, but on a deeper level, they actually scare me a lot.

Think of them in as if it were real. Its grim. They carry a mini nuke in their hand and charge at you and then, well, you wouldn't survive. I'm actually saying this because I actually had a dream involving a mutant suicider. (I know. You know you've played too much when you start dreaming about it).

I wont bore you with crazy dream stories, but I had a 10mm pistol. As it felt real it was to close to just shoot the bomb I shot its legs and tried to hit its head, but it blocked it with its other hand, so I ran. It doesn't sound that scary, but that beeping sound following right behind you and the heavy thuds as it ran was terrifying.

I did manage to squeeze through a gap in the junk walls and escape, but yea. It was not a good feeling.

So yea. That's my little story for today.

Very well designed when something actually makes me un-nerved and afraid when I think about it in a real sense.

These actually exist, well not so much a mini-nuke but there's a few places where mines have been strapped to mole rats.... :ahhh:

Yes, but never saw that one burrow underground and spring up.

They are fun to deal with as melee. Its not impossible, just needs to well timed VATS.

shoot them from a far, shoot their bomb, watch them go boom, pick up Nuke-matereal it's better than having the bomb, bomb useless... but you'll need lots of nuke material...

Just shoot 'em in the legs, they're a lot less threatening when they're limping towards you at the speed of smell.

Or, shoot the arm with the nuke attached, they detonate immediately (usually taking a few of their buddies to hell with 'em).

Oh yea. Gameplay wise, funny as all hell shooting them in the middle of a group.

But when experience one at close range in a dream as if it were real life, creepy.

Oh man, funny story. My knight is passing by Fallon's Department Store and eventually gets the attention of freaking three Suiciders, one after the other. Codsworth took the first one like a true and loyal friend, the second one detonated while I was in VATS so I think I somehow evaded the brunt of the damage. But the third one, I was out of AP - it got close to me and I somehow managed to stunlock it with Kremvh's Tooth and not get killed. It was amazing.

I wouldn't try it again.

I always like to think about all the enemies of the Fallout universe as if they were real and night kin are up there with death claws on danger.

Why don't they strap nukes on mutant hounds ? They are faster.

Because the nuke needs to impact. The super mutant, if you watch them, slam it into the ground football touchdown style.

I kinda wish some of the Raider groups did this. Captured wild dogs, trained them to attack anyone but them and then strap (remote detonated) bombs onto them. If you kill the Raider first the bombs won't go off.

When you see one detonating himself to kill a radroach, preferably among his own buddies, you know you are playing game with AI which still leaves lot to desire :)

And its that thought that scares me too. Now I am one of those people that likes Piper so when I watched as a suicider came running out of an ally and detonate on her, the thought that if it were real there would be nothing left and that really tugged at something deep inside.

I think that is a success in design when that happens.

The suicider is really a frightening concept. Based on real events unfortunately. Luckily the guys seem to be so much indoctrinated that they cannot think of throwing the damn nuke from some distance, playing bio-fatman.

Sweet. I think if you use VATS at the right moment you won't take any damage, probably a glitch, but it has worked for me a few times now.

The super mutant suiciders are pretty frightening but at least you have fair warning. It's those Assaultrons that go stealth, those give me nightmares
