Afrika

I don't know if there's already a topic about it but the great war is described as they nuked the entire planet. So it got me thinking if Afrika wasn't part of the great war what would it look like in fallout 3? The only description I found was;

Smaller nations of the earth felt the changes of the Great War in a different way. Destabilization and economic collapses meant countries such as Australia, New Guinea, and the continent of Africa were spared from the majority of the nuclear missiles and as such much safer from the radioactive fallout. However, the gradual undertaking of reinstating the world became too much and after several civil wars these countries retreated, still quite intact but nethertheless, into isolation.

Does this mean that for example australia was spared? as well as new guinea and afrika?

Where is this description from? It's definitely not from any canon source.

Here are canon and semi-canon sources on the rest of the world:

Fallout intro:

In 2077, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilization would struggle to arise.

Fallout 2 intro:

The earth was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing, an atomic spark struck by human hands, quickly raged out of control. Spears of nuclear fire rained from the skies. Continents were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the boiling oceans. Humanity was almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the background radiation that blanketed the earth.

Jesse Heinig, one of the FO1 designers:

One of the recurring themes of Fallout is that life will find a way to continue, albeit often under great struggles and with violence and suffering. It's not unreasonable, given this notion, to presume that U.S. remnant forces remain in parts of China, just as remnant Chinese elements are in the U.S.; and that other countries are similarly ravaged and war-torn, with survivors crawling out of the rubble. If Australia was untouched by the war, for instance, then presumably after 200 years they would have projected their powerful industrial presence and comparatively high population all around the globe to take control of any remaining resources, and the Enclave would find itself locked in a war with the Aussies. It's likely that some underpopulated parts of the third world escaped the full brunt of nuclear devastation, but since these would have been low-population unindustrialized areas anyway, they are not exactly in a position to take advantage of their "good fortune," such as it is. (I don't imagine that many nukes were wasted on the Sahara.)

The very first Fallout 1 timeline by Scott Campbell and Brian Freyermuth (from which all other Fallout timelines in existence are derived):

Other countries, seeing the US's missiles on their way, fire their warheads as well. What ensues is two hours of nuclear bombardment upon the earth's surface.

Emil Pagliarulo, FO3 lead designer:

Tenpenny Tower was slightly inspired by Fiddler's Green, the skyscraqer in George Romero's Land of the Dead. But it was also an opportunity to introduce another character from outside the U.S. Allistair Tenpenny came to the Capital Wasteland from Great Britain to seek his fortune, so that alone tells you that the U.K. was also hit in the war. And if he came to U.S. to succeed, that says a lot about how screwed up Europe must be. So we just allude, a little bit, to the state of the rest of the world.

Tim Cain, one of the main creators of Fallout:

Killzig: What ever happened to the catholic church in the FO universe?

Tim Cain: I think it was nuked - the vatican that is.

It was just some speculation that someone added to the wiki. I removed it.

Afrika having already shown characteristics of the life after the bombs was spared the nukes because they were already killing each other and enslave'n each other lol. So China and the US said F it and let them to their own garbage they currently live in.

Somali Pirates continue what they are doing, Sudanese Tutsi and Hutu's battle one another like their ancestor's before the bombs fell. North Africa is just a giant sand dune, and South Africa has nothing but Afrikaan's, are just sitting around trying to create another Aparthied while the Zulu's and Dutch fight it out in what was once called Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Sierra Leone, Guinea, Mali, and Liberia fight for the remaining resources that are still around like always. And Uganda still continues its civil war that no one pays any attention to because there is nothing very valuable there, just a bunch of empty space.

That my friends, is what is happening in Africa.

Australia is part of the ANZUS treaty so it might of been bombed by the US's enemies (Australian New Zealand United States treaty made after WW2) its would also be realistic that it was annexed(prob by china) or somthing similar it has one of the worlds largest supply of uranium, diamonds, coal, gold, iron, aluminium ect

There is already a thread on what could have happened to Australia.

I highly doubt Australia would have been annexed by China or any nation for that matter. If anything, Australia would have annexed New Guinea for its oil in Papau, and New Zealand. No one would dare try to annex us, we'd kick their asses right out :)

well i believe that only the nuke armed "civilized" countries was nuked (US,China, Russia,Europe not much etc),the rest of it should simply have fallen back into savagery.

I assume that Africa might have been nuked since parts of Africa had considerable amounts of nuclear materials.

If resources in the Fallout universe mirror ours, then there could be uranium in Algeria, Botswana, Congo, Guinea, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Gabon, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia. And if so, it is quite possible that these countries would have been bombed.
