After playing/beating Fallout 3 makes you want to play FO 1/

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:54 pm

I just beaten Fallout 3 a couple days ago and now I wanted to play Fallout 2 again. I'm gonna cheat a little and give myself 100%+ to unarm skills. I was always curious what it would be like.

For me it's how deeper the SPECIAL system is in FO1 and FO2. How the dialogue is more interesting, turn based-combat, quests are more intriguing, better humor and a better soundtrack.

I'm not saying I didn't like Fallout 3, but I'm saying that the features I have listed above is what tops FO1 and FO2 above Fallout 3 in my opinion. :)

Im waiting for R.P 1.3 to come out.

I've played Fallout 2 so many times now. Im enjoying cheating with an evil character (10 to all stats and 300 to all skills) and just being a [censored] throughout the wasteland.

Oh yeah. You can download a Fallout 2 editor and modify your char. You can even add perks to your char.

I know what you mean. I enjoy Fallout 3 and wouldn't mind seeing Fallout 2 with FO3 graphic but Fallout 2 (and 1) has this timeless charm to them that can't be beat. And yeah the music is so much better, the opener for FO3 was good along with some radio songs but all the non-radio music was just.....blah.

A hex editor will work to the same effect, albeit a little more complicated, but it makes you feel like you earned it when you flag yourself dead :P

Playing FO3 makes me glad I'm not playing FO2.

I might play FO1 later though.

a nice trick in fallout 2 is to go straight to San Francisco and do the mission to get the vertibird plans if done right you will have
a suit of advanced power armor, level 7 6 at the least and if you pickpocket the shopkeepers in Chinatown while your there about 12,000 coins
all within 15 minutes.

I started playing FO2 again three days ago, and I was sure that I never enjoyed the game that much.

I don't know what that has to do with my comments on a hex editor, but okay :P

All I can say is, since I stopped playing FO3 about a month ago, I've really been immersing myself in the originals again. And I've discovered that Tactics is very insightful as to how an isomteric combat system can be quite kickass. I think these could happily tide me over until an FO4 comes out, and then I'll decide if the devs have taken anything on board from the criticism FO3 endured, if they haven't, then I'll just go download wasteland :P

The tone of your post made it uncertain. In that case, I find your lack of faith disturbing.

I think he's refering to liking it more in his most recent playthoughs, maybe :P

The sentence was a bit misleading though, it's hard to tell if it's a criticism or a compliment.

Nope, Fallout 3 really didn't make me go back in my collection and play Fallout and Fallout 2. My habitual replaying of my old but great games did that, heh.

I'm going to be honest here: I did start a new character in F1, but I gave up at Shady Sands. It might have been awesome back then, but now, it just isn't entertaining enough.

I saw that, it looks cool. Recently I saw you can play FO 1/2 at higher resolution so curious how the game play will be like.

The higher resolution patches don't make the game look any 'better' but they do give you the option of running it in a resolution greater than 640x480. I've tried it and I don't really see an improvement, it just makes things harder to spot because everything is displayed smaller. They do include the option of 32-bit colour settings, but to behonest when I activate that it makes no difference whatsoever, I don't know if that's my error or what, but it's my personal opinion that high resolution isn't much of a visual improvement.

However I've heard of a project called 'Mutants Rising' but I can't seem to find out what it is 'exactly'. Then again I haven't looked into it much. But it hints at an artistic overhaul, Ausir will probably be able to shed some light on it :P

As for graphical overhauls, or maybe from a different perspective, an engine overhaul, I can see this a possibility if a team thought it was worth their time. An upgrade based on Fallout: Tactics would be a good start, or even Van Buren if the engine is similar (I haven't seen any footage so I don't know).

Trying to juggle 1, 2, and Tactics right now. Playing 3 just made me want to revisit all the content and features that were cut. Graphics and open world aside, those games just offer a deeper and much more fun gaming experience for me personally.
