After the Hoover Dam: Why can't we continue playing?

Post » Sat Nov 15, 2014 12:53 am

Unlike Fallout 3 when you beat the Main Quest.

Why can't you continue after? I swear I don't play the last part of the Main Quest anymore. It kind of ruins the point of the game if players know this and don't pursue that last part of the quest if it means your character is done and best not to save during the last part of the Main Quest because that would mean.....New Game unless you have a back up save.

It really annoys me to no end that they did this.

So now every time I talk to Mr. House he's going to be pressuring me into defending the Hoover Dam from the Legion. Yay. Thanks devs for putting this negative aspect in the game. I was really hacked off the first time I was stuck at Hoover Dam and couldn't move forward after. I didn't it take it literally when Yes Man or Mr. House had mentioned that there was no return.

So now all I do is just do the quests around that last part since this is my 7th character in all my time of playing New Vegas.

If I have a suggestion for the next game. I'd ask they didn't do this in future Fallout titles.

So, now I'll never touch that last part again. Maybe for fun if I'm bored. But I don't plan on saving during the event of it.

Well despite some people's dislike for Broken Steel DLC for FO3 at least that allowed you to continue in a world you helped shape. I don't know why you can't continue in FONV and yeah that part pretty much ruined the later part of the game for me. I put that off for a long time.

I guess the thought of wanting to continue playing after the MQ was finished was a foreign concept for Obsidian.

Lets hope in FO4 we can continue after the MQ and its not thanks to a DLC

Thank the publisher, because of the deadline they couldn't do post-ending gameplay. Although, in my opinion they could have included it in a DLC. But most game have endings so I don't understand the reason behind [censored]ing about this.

In Fallout 3 it just added to the already bad writing that they made post-ending gameplay, although at that point I think it's right that they didn't care. At least they were consistent.

It wasn't a foreign concept. Beth just didn't give them enough time to work on the game, so some things, like letting you continue on, was cut due to time constraints. It would have taken a lot of work to implement the changes in the game world for a believable after MQ experience.

But, what is point of continue on? By the time you hit end of MQ you could have finished every single quest. If you just want to sit around sniping geckos, why not start a new character?

People get attached to their characters. Many people create all these backstories and New Vegas in particular lets you expand on your character's personality. Add this to the fact that if you get the core game first, finish that and then get the DLCs you have to go back in time in a way to complete them (by reloading and undoing the endgame). I can understand why that would not sit well with a few people.

I enjoy my characters, too, but I don't want to marry them. There comes a point when there is nothing to do.

Not to mention, it isn't some great mystery. As a gamer who has any kind of experience with Beth type games, we know there will be DLC. All it takes is a little responsibility to hold off on the MQ and wait for DLC, if that is your bag. So, you can wait. Or, not wait and accept the game gonna end and you will have to reload if you want to do DLC. People are basically complaining about a self induced issue.

The game told me it will end, so *I* finished it, now I gotta reload!! Now, of the game hid the fact it will end, I could understand the gripe.

There are some mods on the Nexus which allow play after the main quest end.
Be warned some are old, and there is a lot of stuff which needs script work to properly shut down or reset.

I agree with you. I know that the game can be beat at level 20 and by that time we've beaten just about every quest there is. I was pretty much done with Fallout 3 shortly after I hit level 30. By that time there was nothing to do at all except run around and repeatedly kill bandits for the sake of being trigger happy. But now that I know that after the battle over the Hoover Dam is optional, I can hold off and play the game until I'm ready to end it after 50. However my main complaint is that I would like to see what becomes of New Vegas after the battle of Hoover Dam.

Well, they pretty much tell you what happens in the ending sliders, based on your choices. I don't think there would be much to see, the biggest changes, would be if you supported Legion. Otherwise the immediate changes would be fairly minimal.
