After the MQ

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:38 am

I've been wondering for a long time now if dragons will be eradicated once we defeat Alduin.

Honestly, it would make sense for this to happen but I hope not. I want to be able to fight dragons even though I'm finished with the main quest. I might change my mind once I actually fight one though.

But would you like to see dragons be gone completely after the completion of the main quest?

No. I'd like most dragons to be optional that remain in their locations or however they appear until I kill them. I'm almost positive that not all dragons are mandatory during the main quest, so it would svck if I permanently missed out on a dragon word and thus a shout just because I finished the main quest without killing all of them.

I wouldn't, but then again we don't know what the end of the MQ is.

True, but it is at least confirmed that we can play afterward.

I hope they're not like the ash vampires of Morrowind where once Dagoth Ur went down they all died and just left loot sitting on the floor.

However...if so all the more reason to hunt them down and slay them in epic combat.

For all we know the main quest will have us killed and end the game if they end it in A fallout fashion where you can't play after the end. But who knows, they have never done that in past TES games but nobody can say for certain how it will end if it does even end.

Eh it wouldnt make sense if all the dragons disappeared after the main quest was over, even when Alduin is defeated you would think there would still be a few stragglers hanging around Skyrim.

We may not even kill alduin yet,i think there will be a bigger twist to the story than that....i really do.
It may involve factions, darkbrother hood etc.
And who's to say all dragons will be enemies, there is so much we don't know yet.
But it's still good to speculate :)

Edit: Todd did say that there are different types of dragons.
This could mean.....,size,different looks,good or bad etc,we don't know :)
I like threads like this...it's good to see peoples views on what will happen after the main quest :)
Good one

You might be able to argue that even though Alduin is defeated, some dragons remained becuase they haven't been driven out yet?
I agree, it makes sense but I doubt anyone wants to quit fighting what I am sure will be the most epic encounters in the whole game.

This.

Who says we even defeat Alduin? We could fail or decide not to kill him after all after he explains that the world must be burned and remade for the mortal races own good because he's done it so many times before.. breaking the cycle would screw up the world etc.

I'm willing to bet that it won't be as simple as "You defeated Alduin, the world is saved"

Maybe not quite that simple, but its confirmed that we will be able to play after the main quest.

"Oh man after slaying that last dragon I sure enjoyed celebrating over the three day weekend. Let's go back and urinate on his corpse just because... OH ****!" Lulz

Anywho I would bet there is some kind of twist. Maybe Alduin/Akatosh is open to a different way of leaving Nirn, one that doesn't require the destruction of all mankind. Maybe you end up having to find it.

If you mean in the game, maybe. They are your main threat and the main threat according to the story. It would make sense they would quit smashing the place up once the main storyline is resolved one could assume.

If you mean no longer in the world of Nirn, I highly doubt it. Even if they are eradicated for the main quest in Skyrim it would not be the first time they had been driven off. Remember it's a surprise to even see them because they were driven off and thought extinct already in Tamriel ;)

I'm still hoping some dragons will be neutral or good. Todd's comment that dragons are "not nice guys" makes me nervous that they are just going to be one dimensional monsters, which would seem like a total waste to the language they are crafting and such. I'd love for this to mark the return of dragons, neutral good and bad alike!

I'd like it if after the main quest is done the remaining dragons flee into the wilderness becoming extremely rare and hard to find. Of course they might be implemented just as the oblivion gates were in Oblivion and simply disappear after the MQ is finished.

I'm hoping that Dragons don't appear until you have made a little bit of progress in the main quest. That way I can completely ignore the MQ on my second playthrough and all will be well.

Simple: They respawn until you finish the MQ. Then you can kill them all to extinction.

It's impossible to know whether dragons will still appear after the main quest at this time, Bethesda hasn't said anything, and in any case, this likely concerns the ending as how the main quest ends, if after the main quest, they're once again driven from the world, then I can't imagine we'll encounter them again in the game, but we don't know if that will happen in the game or not. We know we can continue playing after the main quest, from which I can deduce that we'll probably defeat Alduin at the end, in part because I'm sure we'll have an encounter with him and I doubt he'd give the player a chance to live if the player failed to stop him, and in part because Aluin is trying to destroy the world, which would make it rather hard to continue playing if he succeeded. Sure, the world might be remade after it is "eaten", but it wouldn't immediately revert to the state which it was in before that, I'm sure, that would sort of defeat the purpose of remaking the world, which, you'd think, is to give it a chance to start over, leading to something different. But this doesn't necessarily mean all the dragons have to go with him.

But I just hope dragons won't continue to attack cities after the main quest is completed, as it would get really annoying needing to constantly save cities from dragon attacks and not having any way to stop it permanently. Though I wouldn't mind if they would continue to appear in wilderness or dungeon areas so that we still had a way to get dragon souls, otherwise, players might intentionally delay completing the main quest so they won't lose the main means of making dragon shouts more powerful. That was a problem that Oblivion had too. Although I wanted to complete the main quest to stop the Oblivion gates from appearing, there was a practical reason to delay it as there was no way to get Sigil Stones after completing the main quest. I fear that, if dragons dissappear after the main quest, Skyrim will once again have this problem.

Well, if they are living beings then defeating their progenitor shouldn't eradicate all of them in one blow, just make them disorganized and isolated. Yah, I'd sure like to be able to fight them afterwards.
