Looks nice, but copying http://livo.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/petra-castle.jpg stone for stone is cheap, and those castles look somewhat familiar.

no its not, CRPGs have always used real world locations as insperation and sometimes outright copied them, nothing new and pretty much accepted practice

Hurt your feelings? :( Not that I agree with everything he says, but he's honest and blunt. That can't be said for most devs.

No i pretty much agree with everything he said, but its his attitude that I didnt like, he was basically dragging every other dev/artist/company in the dirt because it wasnt his cup of tea, Not cool.

You're talking about his first interview aye? That's not exactly the point he was trying to make. But it's been nearly two years since I've read it, forgot the details. That's what I had thought too, but after being part of his forum for several months, I know he isn't really like that all. For one, people seem to think he doesn't like anything which isn't turn based and isometric, yet one of his favourite games is Vampire Bloodlines.

There is a clear difference between inspiration and exact copying. Seeing how at least two of the landmarks on that map are clearly copied, I wouldn't be surprised to find that all of them are.

Does it matter? It looks brilliant. Didn't know they were real landmarks, but it doesn't make a difference.

You can always ask him and see what's he got to say about it.

Again nothing new here as I said inspiration or copying is common in CRPGs in fact some people like it, I don't see a problem with it, its never bothered me, and is so common its hardly worth commenting on. Everything from real world cities to castles to other locations have been lifted from the real world (and sometimes films or books) and copied into a CRPG

Is that the final, release version? Because while the individual elements look alright, they don't gel particularly well. The CGI buildings don't really match the hand-drawn, stylised terrain, while some of the ground and craters seem to have been done at a completely different angle and perspective (not to mention they're photos), which just throws the whole thing right off.

Heh heh heh. In the center of the map, where the little gold capped pyramid is, you see a face. Pyramid is the nose, dark gash is unibrow, craters are eyes.

Also Arc de Triomphe to the right of that, and Dome of the Rock next to Hagia Sophia.

The combat demo is addictive. Cant... stop...trying...new...builds!

Using a long spear and kiting enemies is so much fun! And with dodge pretty unstoppable. Crippling legs is fun in arena and disarming in the close quarters of the inn fight means I almost never get hit, so I beat it even with low constitution.

Nice how a build is pretty easy but not boring, meaning I used quite a bit of tactics with the spear build.

What builds have you tried?

I've beaten the demo with:

dodge/dagger
sword/critical
hammer/block
throwing (knives mainly)/critical

And I've played it with a bow and spear/block, but I didn't beat the demo this way.

I got all the endings apart from killing the assassins, or murdering an innocent and facing the guards. There are about 11 different endings (some small changes in each ending). My favourite has to be jumping out of the window using my highly dexterous character. I tried it with my sword/critical guy and ended up falling to my death.

I've beaten it with:

axe/crit
sword/block
spear/dodge

and I'm trying a sword/crit with heavy armor right now, though the Ordu are giving me trouble.

Spear guy has by far been the most fun for me so far, using a long spear to kite enemies is great, you almost don't need the dodge until the harder fights. The spear/dodge is the only one I fought and beat the guards in the inn. I need to try it with a blocker now.

How has throwing worked out for you? I haven't really tried any of the ranged skills yet.

I found the throwing guy very powerful. Nearly overpowered if it wasn't for the fact that I'm too weak once I'm surrounded. But I beat the demo this way in 35mins, compared to 2hrs or so of trying with other builds.

Sounds good, I'll have to try throwing out.

Curious, how did you play? Did you kite enemies enemies around? Cripple their legs?
What supplement skills did you use? Crit? Dodge?

I think it's intentional. From what I understand of the story it mixes historical elements with their own fictional storyline. At any rate, I know from one of their playthrough examples that they reference some historical figures such as the famous engineer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Jazari. Guess I'll have to wait and play the game and see if that location is in fact supposed to be Petra.

No defensive points, so I only invested in Throwing and Critical. Singular opponents die quickly; either knives to the head, or to the torso.

Multiple opponents are trickier, so leg shots to slow them down, and then finish them off.

Yeah there's an axe guy in the Triari too, which svcks for blockers. Went for him first and then equipped a backup shield after he was dead to fight the other two.
The devs are doing some balancing to shield breaking with axes, right now the chance is rather high.

The Arc has been turned into one of those carved Ethiopian churches though, so hats off to them for that one.

What's your build?

Sword/Blocker. Dodge skill is not very good, but I've been putting some points in critical strike.

What equipment should I use for this fight? Armor with a high protection, or high critical hit protection, or with a smaller dodge penalty, or something else? What about the weapon? Strong/slow weaker/fast? I have 10 AP max.

I already unequipped my shield, because I doubt it would be of any use in this fight.
