Wouldn't it be cool as your sprinting you could free run, this is how it would work. Everything would be normal gameplay wise, then when you started sprinting; if you jumped close to a small ledge you would jump over it like you would in free running, (see video for example). or you where running and you pushed a certain button you would roll forward to break your fall.

If I wanted graphics I'd play Crysis, if I wanted stealth I'd play Thief, if I wanted companions I'd play Baldur's Gate, if I wanted combat I'd play Dark Messiah, if I wanted choices&consequences I'd play The Witcher, if I wanted to decorate houses I'd play The Sims. With this logic Tes should never improve its gameplay because other games are ahead.

Its not about it being like other games, it's about not always having boring movement, It was unrealistic: walk forward and then jump 8 feet. So what if you fell 15 feet, wouldn't it make sense to be able to roll when you hit the ground to smooth the fall.

Yes, I would definitely like this kind of natural movement.

That whole rolling when you hit the ground thing doesn't work too well past about 12-13 feet. It will actually give you more of a chance of seriously hurting yourself, at least if it is a straight down drop. Of course if you jumped forward 10 feet and dropped 15 then you have the momentum for a roll.

I would like to be able to climb short walls or jump and grab a roof and pull myself up.

I am wanting basic movements really with significant fatigue costs. Modified by archetype strength, stealth, magic. And yes I want to be able to climb climable surfaces.

[edit]
The Thief series had it about right for a Stealth archetype imo. Climbing ropes, mantling low obstructions, minimal jumping. Assassins Creed, Mirrors Edge, Tomb Raider, etc all go too far. TES is so much more, but should not ignore basic unconventional movements like these.

I don't roll. I refuse to get my robe all dusty when I can use magic instead. :sorcerer:
I don't want to wait the end of a rolling animation, no matter how short, to retake control of my character, and I don't like the idea of a Lara Croft character rolling left and right in Skyrim.
Unless it's a Kajiit. But still, no.

I just don't see the point in such unrealistic movement for only one specific class-type that could really abuse it.

Answer: NPCs

and to be fair, freerunning/parkour do exist In The Real World, so it is not intrinsically 'unrealistic'.

100% spot on. It's like when people were saying they should not add horses unless they were better than the ones in Red Dead Redemption. I mean honestly, this is a game with so many features, they can't expect them all to be better than anything else ever did them. And yes, they shouldn't not include a feature just because it;s not traditionally there and other games have it.

I f you don't want to roll at the end of a fall, just take the damage instead, because that's the only time rolling would be close to mandatory.

I had not playerd 'mirrors edge', but in assassin's creed, the parkour was all. To have this feature, bethesda should make the game world around it. Besides, I wouldn't want to be able to do this as I start the game, it should be something learnable and with some kind of progress, which would make it even more complicate to implement.

Lots of things exist in the real world. That doesn't mean it needs to be implemented in a fantasy game not even based on our world. Especially where nowhere in lore has there been any indication of such actions being done. Climbing would be the best I'd enjoy to see for acrobatic feats.

Why would I want my character to roll and tumble like a circus clown? The really remarkable thing is how this "I saw some guy do it in a movie" silliness is described as "realistic".

I don't know how I feel about this, but Brink is using it (also bethesda) so I wouldn't be too surprised if it was implemented. As long as they aren't trying to be AC or Mirrors edge. Those games are good for what they are, and if every game did it it would take away from the magic.

Way too complex to put in, and there exist dedicated games for parkour/freerunning you can play if that is your game. However, I *would* really love to see the end of the "bunnyjump for everything", and get some decent animations for simple stuff like clearing obstacles etc. Arma2 has it for jumping over a fence (you can't jump in that game), and Vietcong had some excellent moves I'd like to see as well:

It can't get "too fancy" though, or it'll never work out ok in 1st person.

Being able to crawl under gaps, roll after a fall or *gasp* climb ladders would be great. However you can't say modified from gamebryo without saying gamebryo and gamebryo is just plain for animations.

K, how is climbing "way too complex to put in"? Maybe you walk towards something deemed "climbable", hit the jump button, and, you climb.

Sure, they don't need to test it. They don't need to make sure it doesn't completely unbalance and break things. It won't take any time at all to go through the entire gameworld and check every single surface that might be climbable and then check if adding that property would ruin any of the quests, etc.

This is just for climbing. The fact is, designing a game with free running/parkour/Matrix/breakdance movement means specifically designing it to include that sort of functionality, not just "throwing it in." That's how games get broken and crap.
