Agree or disagree with horse – still yet another PR hit

Post » Fri Mar 14, 2014 8:04 pm

I’ve never seen an MMO get as much pre-release hate as this game all over the net, ever. And this was BEFORE the Imperials, before the Explorer’s Pack, before their initial press weekend beta that resulted in negative reviews all over the place, before the horse in the cash shop.

It doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree on whether the horse in the shop is ok or not, it’s just ANOTHER thing to bring even more hate onto the game. And it seems they keep laying these things on us just as they are starting to get their head above water with their public image. The January beta test weekend started to get some positive feedback from people, then the pre-order bonus hit pouring on even tons more new hate. Now for the last month vibes in forums and around more places have been a bit more positive, and now it’s the horse and confirmed cash shop pouring on the hate again.

Zenimax, at some point it may be wise to make a move that HELPS your image a bit, or at least doesn’t add fuel to the already raging hate fire.

I wouldn't worry too much about the vast majority of the player base moaning; they're extremely fickle and most companies know this. This will blow over in a week or two.

Pray tell, what hate is "all over the net"? ESO has been getting mostly glowing reviews from everyone who's played it recently.

I agree i mean people will still buy it no doubt but as soon as they find more things they don`t like and start [censored]ing they will always be "oh and that horse too" it just adds more hate... and it will matter after 1-3 months when people decide if they want to keep paying...

You really don`t want to do things like this where your player base has a reason to hold a grudge... it matter in the end.

Its an option. There is no need to hate ZOS for giving people such option. I would consider buying that horse myself if I didnt have CE. I have time consuming job and it would make my game exp. more convenient. Mounts and vanity pets in store are fine, it worked for blizzard, ZOS isnt going to let this revenue source slip away.

If they started selling gear or gold, I would gladly join the panic, but this is absolutely fine with me. Especially considering its still not best mount in game and top tier can only be acquired in game.

No regarding that hate... its internet, internet is basically consisted of porm and hate blogs. ZOS aint worried, because bad press is still going to draw attention and its part of the marketing.

You never been on the beta forums of SWTOR before they got wiped at launch, lol they were burning the place down...
And then at launch we had queue's of hours because "they" all wanted to play.

Ppl are spoiled, its a 1st world problem

It is just an option. You buy time. You can all get this ingame. Problem solved.

I don't have a problem with the horse. I know a lot of people can't afford the Imperial Edition, and this is a fair way to offer the option.

What bothers me are the "what ifs."

  • If you missed out on the Imperial Edition, now you can buy the Imperial race for the low, low price of $9.95!
  • Are trade skills getting you down? Not to worry, now you can buy stacks of tradeskill matts!
  • New! One week only! Get 50% xp pots in stacks of 10 and catch up to your friend! $19.95!

It's the what if this is their way of not having a cash shop and offering junk in their store.

But, mounts and pets meh, WoW did this and as far as I know (haven't played in a few) it never turned into a cash shop.

they are a good company and they know it. Their product is fun, reasonably priced, and of high quality. They shouldn't give a damn about public opinion and just make the game they want to make. The dollars should follow.

I wholeheartedly disagree. There's been much much worse. SWTOR was worse and rarely saw anything positive, unlike ESO has gotten handfuls of positive impressions and hype.

well u can buy a starter horse for some money...I dont care really, the best horses cost gold.

Btw Zenimax have won my respect, they have worked their ass off releasing new features in a very short time before release, they listen to the community unlike most companies.

Well, i'll not complain too much in this thread. I feel this can only hurt them in the long run. The Imperial Edition put me on the fence with this game, but now with this new cash shop horse selling, I'm just going to cancel my preorders and wait for something else. I don't see how this will gain them any new sales, possibly only have them lose some if anything. But you never know, any publicity is good publicity i guess.

That's what I was thinking.

The way they introduced the game (tutorial, etc...) was soooo bad.

Most ppl I know thinks the game svcks because of their first 10-15 minutes in the game.

I got to be honest, even I found the game stale and with a strange f2p "feeling" when I was playing the tutorial area. The game felt more like Neverwinter than a TES MMO to me.

But I had nothing to do so I kept playing...

Needless to say that in less than 2 hours later my Digital Imperial Edition was pre ordered. :D

Plz God no. :cryvaultboy:

Just because people don't understand, doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

For now it's only a horse... in 1, 3, 6 months... who knows what can be found in that shop. If the shop only contained cosmetic stuff, like they said it would, then there would be no problem whatsoever, but now even before launch they've gone back on what they said... and there is something clearly not just cosmetic to be found.

Yes, it's only a horse, and you can buy a horse for 17k, no biggie. Had they released horse skins in a months time, nobody would've said a thing... but like this, it's dirty, greedy... and I'm afraid only the beginning.

It's fine. I don't mind things like a couple mount and pets a la WoW. Also using a slippery slope fallacy to explain why you're against the current system is, well... fallacious.

What if I get hit by a car...
What if I get mugged...
What if I get struck by lightning...
What if I trip off a pier and get eaten by a shark...

Buying a vanity horse that is going to be near useless by the time you hit level 40 is a LONG way from buying gear and boosters. Everyone needs to relax already....reading these forums is becoming pointless.

They have won my respect as well for the same reasons, but I am worry too. This is on a dark path that leads to pay gates. Just very concern when it will stop or will greed take over?
