I've played them all from Arena to Skyrim and I would rank them on order as follows...Daggerfall, Oblivion, Skyrim, Morrowind, Arena.

I'm just getting into Daggerfall and I have to say it has the most potential of any of the games. Too bad they went the opposite direction with the series afterwards..

Dollars to donuts you haven't put more than 5 hours into Morrowind. Or you're a console kiddy.

uh? sure, or he has, you know...a differing opinion than you?

and to answer your question OP: no. Morrowind was my first TES game and it is far from my most adored title from the franchise (that being Skyrim).

my characters from all three respective games BTW, (having done almost all the content for each entry):

Morrowind (Eivr Neran= anagram of Nerevarine): http://i45.tinypic.com/8zn476.jpg

Oblivion (really...I don't remember my character's name on this game, been quite awhile since I've played it due to the god awful combat system/level scaling): http://i47.tinypic.com/20j1e9k.jpg

Skyrim (Tyvien Airek, which I believe I drew inspiration from through Norway, if I can recall correctly): http://i46.tinypic.com/zmcbhx.jpg

Well technically no, since the first ES game I played was Redguard. But the first ES game I played extensively was Morrowind, and it remains my favorite game of all time.

I felt Skyrim was the best game upon first playthrough, but in hindsight it just awful, boring and ceaselessly aggravating. I believe that the first time you experience the freedom of an Elder Scrolls game, is the one you probably will have the highest regard for. I feel Oblivion was best, as it was my first ES game, and nostalgia stops it from descending from such prestige. I doubt it ever will with the TES series degenerating as it is.

I don't know what my favourite is, it's generally whatever game I'm playing at the time. But the mechanics of my first game, Oblivion, seem the best to me. The perfect balance between the simplicity of Skyrim and complexity of Morrowind.

All Elder Scrolls games tend to lose their fun after you've seen it all. Skyrim probably suffers the worse from that, with its short guild questlines and very few quests with multiple ways of completion. The degeneration of TES makes me a sad panda, but I still hold hope for a major DLC saving Skyrim.

Arena was my first, but not my favorite. I will always think of it fondly, and sometimes still catch myself humming the tavern music.

It's tough to answer, really. From an RPG viewpoint, Daggerfall is my hands down favorite. I don't think the others combined would equal its depth. However, I'm mostly about graphics and immersion, so I'd have to say that Oblivion is my favorite for that reason.

Just something about it. I got out of jail, swam across Lake Rumare, came up upon the settlement of Aleswell, walked around the corner of one of the buildings and saw the Imperial City in the glow of a Cyrodiil sun set. The music tied the visual together and it kind of drew me in, can't really explain it. None of the other games did that. Granted, I detest the world / loot scaling and the numerous RPG elements stripped out of it from Morrowind, but still.

Well, my first TES experience started with Morrowind wayyyy back in 2002, 10 years ago, and it is still my favorite. Oblivion for me was kind of a step backwards by comparison, but Skyrim has fixed a lot of the issues present in that game and has brought back a lot of good things that were in Morrowind too.

This goes for me. Oblivion was my first TES-game, and it's still my favourite, even though I can see that both Morrowind and Skyrim has features that are better or lacking in Oblivion.

morrowind all the way, ive played daggerfall, oblivion, and skyrim. daggerfall was different to get used to more that it would just crash alot and was a tad to hard to get into because of that. oblivion prolly got a good few months out of me, though i was more excited about it as my dad would get off morrowind /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> , and skyrim got i think a week before i went back to morrowind.

idk in ten years ive only really tried a retexture of morrowind for a while. the graphics overhaul was to different. i like the nice new graphics but lacking in game play and depth keeps me from the newer games in the series.

No it isn't agreed. My first Elder Scrolls game was Morrowind and my favorite Elder Scrolls game now is Skyrim. Each game has been better than the last

My first was Morrowind. The shock of learning by playing that the open game world was actually continuous from one end to the other completely sold me, and I lived on Vvardenfell for the next few months. The other (both newer and older) games are truly great places to visit, but playing Morrowind will always feel to me like coming home.

I thought it would be interesting to talley up the responses so far. This proved to be harder than I had anticipated. Some did not answer the question, merely listed their favorite games, and a few posts I honestly couldn't understand what the hell the poster was trying to say. So this is probably not what you would call a strictly scientific count but it represents my best attempt to intuit what people were saying in their posts:

YES: 27
NO: 43

This does not really apply to me. Oblivion was my first, Morrowind is my favorite with Skyrim being a damn close second. Now, if they took the plot, depth, and character development of Morrowind and mixed with the visuals and living world of Skyrim... that'd be something to see.

Its true people hate Oblivion because of Morrowind nostalgia. And for me Oblivion is best (i like Oblivion humor, Oblivion landscapes, Oblivion npcs )

Skyrim is nice but - Oblivion and SI got more humor in quests then Skyrim.
