Go ahead and start Pre-Loading Fallout 4

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:53 am

Was hoping that this thread would be news that I could pre-load it right now, and turn that greyed out Fallout 4 text on my Steam into something different to make me feel like its even closer.

I am also pretty sure that the sun will rise tomorrow, it fits all the patterns we've had previously, but we know how much the forces of nature like to change the weather in some places, changing the sun isnt a big step.

28 gigs...Without even noticing...Ghhhk.

I am sure for us terrestrial mortals its going to take a solid day to download it off of steam when it comes time for PC. So many downloaders and only so much server space to go around. Google Fiber seems to tap into the same magic and wizardy as the SSD in my PC though.

Anyone know if GMG will release the keys early or will those of us whom have our preorders have to wait until release day? Guess what I'm asking is if we'll be able to preloaded or not.

I don't expect to have my Pipboy Edition until sometime after release.

From their FaQ:

you will receive the key on the day of release (or a day or two beforehand dependant on the game publisher) We cannot guarantee that you'll be able to preload

Good news. Glad I canceled the physical copy for PC after hearing that I have to download most of it anyway. I expect Steam to have it available for pre-loading on Nov. 3.

I'm glad companies do this. Sometimes it feels as if publishers or developers are forgetting about people who don't have a high-speed internet connection or who still have a data limit.

Since i got my key from another retailer i probably won't get it till launch day, maybe the day before. Fortunately i have a good internet connection and no data limits. Worst case i set it to download before i head out in the morning and by the time i return a few hours later it should be well and proper done.

I just don't quite trust Steam to not throttle their speeds.

It took them like an extra week or something to make the season pass available on PS4 after Xbox(I'm guessing it made it to Steam too by now?) so I have no doubt it will be up for download on PS4 and Steam here shortly with more than a ton of time to download and get ready for that amazing moment at midnight on November 10.....though it will be more like 0100 or 0200 for me as I will be going to Gamestop at midnight for the strategy guide and will study it for a bit before playing.

That used to be true, but recent games have started simply including an "installer installer". In FO4's case, I believe the disk was rumored just to contain an installer for Steam - which you then download the game from there.

Is the key usually required just to pre-load the game too or is it just for activating it to play?

I think you'll need the key to start any kind of download from Steam, because otherwise Steam won't know you own the game.

Mine downloaded but didn't change the title from pre-order to pre-downloaded . If you hit the start button (believe it is that button) while over the fallout 4 icon it will give you a list of options. Choose manage game (something like that) and it will show how much has been downloaded. My copy went from 101kb to 28 GB yesterday. Hope that helps.

We must call out to the wise and powerful deities, known to us as Todd and Gabe, so that they may bring forth the great unlocking...
