I guess Pre-loading is now available for XBox-One. Not sure about any other platforms.

Rumor is it's already available for Xbox one, but don't hold me to that, since I own a PS4.

Which means I'll get it like a day before it's available, because Sony is just so easy to work with.

And um, what happens for those who pre-ordered physical copies?

Do we get the game early too, or will we have to wait till the 10th of November (the "official" release) to dowload the game? ?_o

Physical copies don't download the game from a server, they install it directly from the disk. It's available at 12 Eastern Time, so if you're like, in California you can get it at 9pm from the store, then install it in probably half an hour once you get home.

Pre-loading is not the same thing as getting the game early, it won't unlock until release time.

You get to wait until you get your key inside the physical copy. That's one of the benefits of getting the digital game. Face it, the real reason they make pre-downloads available at all is to reduce the download server stress on launch day.

In other news, the sun will set this evening, and rise again in the morning.

Oh my, you're right! All 28 gigs are there! (I have that Google fiber, stuff downloads instantly without me noticing. Must have downloaded when I turned my Xbox on to surf the web an hour ago. Yes, I use my Xbox for that. I don't have a laptop/computer.)

I wonder how many more months I have to wait for them to install a fiberjack and service.

Yes

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1541006-pete-hines-says-you-can-preload-fallout/

It will be a few days before release. Makes me think that the XB1 announcement may be more of a getting in line thing that actually pre-downloading it. Then again, maybe it has already been certified or far enough along to allow a pre-load for that platform.

As for not having a Key, that might be an issue for the PC. However if you have the disk, you don't really need to preload it, do you?

I guess it depends how big the none-disk content is, as they have made a bit of a fuss over it makes it sound less than the normal day 1 patch and the "go live" details lol.

Devs have already confirmed that physical copy owners will have to download a good deal as the PC version is shipped on a single DVD (so only 8.4GB max possible). Compression not withstanding, that's still a long way from 28GB.

(Both console versions are shipping on Blu-Ray, so download would be day one patch stuff only).

That's true, but hopefully having the disk cuts down on the download part.

They can compress it down quite a bit, but I don't think 28 Gigs to 8.4. Close maybe, but probably not all of it. Glad I have a day job so that I can set this up to download while I am at work, no matter how much has to be downloaded.

The disk contains 4.7 gigs of data and the rest will be downloaded via steam. People who preordered their physical copy will have to wait to get the disk

Do we know that it's on a single-layer disc, though? It's quite possible that it could come on a dual-layer disc, which can hold up to 9.4 GBs.

I've determined it to be very probable through carefully watching videos and reading tweets and interviews. It is just a theory at this point, but it fits with all the evidence we have, and I hope to be proven correct very soon!
