Hah, reading about all these accounts makes me so nostalgic. I decided to reinstall Morrowind yesterday, as it is (personally) the best TES so far. Don't get me wrong, Oblivion was great, but it didn't have the same appeal as Morrowind's story/ambience etc. What gets me though, is how endearing it is just to start off in Seyda Neen. I love that place. Firstly, great sense of freedom, mystery and potential, as you step off that boat, bewildered by your current situation. But quickly you realise that you have (by the grace of Uriel Septim) been given the chance to live your own life.
On previous run-throughs, I would race past the 'small time' quests (ie, the Murder of Vitellius), and head straight to Balmora, but lately I've started to enjoy the appropriate ease of difficulty these beginning quests in Seyda Neen present to the fresh-off-the-boat adventurer. This round, I took my time exploring Seyda Neen. All those quests I had brushed off earlier - what a shame! Returning Fargoth's ring, for a slight disposition increase at Arielle's Tradehouse (better prices for the new adventurer), finding Fargoth's hiding place, stealing back the ring I'd just returned to him (svcker), and splitting the cash with that Nord in the tavern, solving the murder of the tax man and returning his ring to his love, giving a hundred septims to Vodunius Nuccius so that he may escape his run of bad luck on Morrowind, and finally taking care of the bandit cave just North of the small settlement. Also, for those of you who didn't know, outside the lighthouse, next to the boardwalk in a tree stump is some gold and a goblet, and a few metres off, another tree stump with an enchanted axe (equalling 100gp). By the end of it all, some 1400gp. Not bad.
--Morrowind, you never cease to surprise me.--
The replayability of this game is wicked. Traditionally, I'd go for the lightly armoured, yet lethal class of a swords expert, rounded out with some decent magic and excellent stealth abilites. This time though, I'll take a step back from my usual instant progression of no0b to L337 (by rather hastily (and gameplay-killingly) completing the Lady's Ring quest, and then easily murdering llaro Llethri at the Dren Plantation for his Daedric Dai-Katana, which at Level 2 or so, is a bit unfair to all the enemies of the Nerervarine). No, this time, after meeting up with good old Caius Cosades, I'll take my time. Join the Fighter's Guild, get some income, level up my Long Blade and Heavy Armor, explore, build a reputation and some core skills.
Personally, I like to become head of all four guilds, plus either House Hlaalu or Redoran (still undecided, any opinions?), then complete the Main quest. Bit of a completionist. Plus having a stronghold is awesome, setting out all your high end gear is immensely satisfying.
