Ahh, I remember now why I love Morrowind so much

Double left click on the local map, where you want to write a note. It's in the vanilla game, no mods necessary.

For Houses, it depends on my characters class, a thief will join Hlaalu, a mage, Telvanni, and a fighter, Redoran. The Houses are geared toward those character types, so I just go with the flow. My favorite though is Telvanni.

Brilliant, many thanks. Yeah, house choice makes sense. Just joined Hlaalu. I love the stronghold you get with them.

Nice I found this cave that if you go in, there is a note on a barrel. It says "We have gone on ahead, meet up with us, here is a sword" or something like that. If you go on there is a big stair case that leads to an ancestral tomb :o In it is a vampire chick who at first wupped my butt, but when I beat here she had an artifact. And get this, going back to the entrance of the cave and levitating up leads to a different area. In this hidden area all the bandits are hiding. They made a deal with the vamp chick and set the note on the barrel as a decoy to lure adventurers to her!

Stuff like this is amazing.

North of Vos on an island. Cave entrance faces the north and on the water. Sorry I don't recall the name.

I have been playing for years and only after reading something I found that the first cave you'll usually visit has more than what I always thought it to be. I was always scared of the water when it first came out so I always dreaded going into it let alone exploring for fun and I found another tunnel with some mushrooms and a ring, kind of pointless but really cool stuff like that is still in the game.

Reading these discoveries really warm my heart - this is exactly the spirit of adventure that Morrowind embodies. Over time, I've found discussions about comparing Morrowind to Oblivion and ultimately Skyrim to be increasingly tiresome: as I've come to realize, lots of this game's mechanics aren't perfect, certainly better alternatives exist. Much of what makes this game so great is just grounded in nostalgia, and yet at the same time, there are so many little details - like those in this thread, which I think in the end give the game much more soul and character than every other Elder Scrolls game could hope to offer.

I was recently posting in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1163659-light-sources/ thread, which brought back to my mind the innumerable lanterns, candles, and other light sources in Morrowind. One would think nothing of them, but in retrospect it was really cool that there were so many of different luminosities and colors: and being able to place them in the world to customize your home was really something.

Little intricacies like lanterns and uniquely hidden dungeon loot aren't really things a new player will identify with immediately into the game - rather things you'll only begin to notice after hours of playtime, things you won't truly appreciate until you move on to another game and realize just how badly you miss them. I almost lament newer games, because of how "consistent" they're becoming in their presentation and format. Oblivion's dungeons more or less always had chests in the same preset places: niches in the walls for forts, corners for Ayleid casks. It's basically becoming something along the lines of: you've cleared the dungeon, here's where you can find your reward as usual.

But really, I'm amazed that I and countless others are still finding new things in this wonderful world. In the end, this is what I truly hope Bethesda will think of when calling upon inspiration from past games. Adventure.

I used to always walk past my stronghold (Redoran) but one day I decided to line the pathway with lanterns. I even placed a ton of lanterns along the walls. Looks very nice at night.

I loved the fact that they would hide chests and other items around in dungeons and even in the world. Feels like you got a bonus when you find them. Sure many of them are nearly worthless but fun to find neverless.

Ahh, sorry it's been a while since I've posted, been having lots of trouble with internet lately.

So, I've found a ton of new stuff and new people/places last several days. More then I could probably remember and type, but here a few:

I discovered a nest of Quarra Vampires inside of
Spoiler
Dwemer Ruins
. Inside there I found a full suit of Ebony(my third now I do believe, I've kept them all, lol), a full suit of Glass that I'll be selling, the "Vampiric Ring" which IIRC is an artifact, and one I've never found to boot, AND an interesting potion called Blood of the Quarra which gives some pretty nice stat boosts.

I found a cave that housed two summoners who were trying to find the tomb of some ancient summoner. I killed them both, and then found the Tomb they were looking for. Inside it contained
Spoiler
The Daedric Face of Inspiration, Eleioden's Ward, several nice Daedric weapons/armor that I added to my growing collection, 6 Ancient Silver Daggers that had a nice poison enchantment on them, and random other stuff[/spoiler}. Again, another place I've never found

I just now found Indiana Jones burial Tomb, quite interesting place. I loved the little letter by him.

Found a Daedric Bow, which is pretty sweet.

Lots and lots of other stuff. I completed the Thieves guild quest AND sub-quest line, which was very interesting.
Oh, I also discovered that Crassius Curio of House Hlaalu is the games biggest pervert!
Spoiler
In order for him to sponsor you so you can advance in the House Hlaalu quest line, he forces you to strip naked for him and calls you sweetie-pie....evil bastard
. Once I get done with the House Hlaalu quest line, I'm killing the bastard for his embarassments he forced on me.

Every time I start to get a bit weary of exploring, I realize "Hey, I can go do these quests for these people, cuz I've never done em before" and when I get tired of that, I realize I still have so much more of the map to explore. Not to mention I've barely started Tribunal, and I haven't even set foot on Soltsthiem. Loving it!

I recently dug up my old XBox version of it, because I only just discovered that it is now backwards compatible, which is awesome. I couldn't wait to start fresh, without mods from the PC version. And you're right, the graphics are dated, but in comparison to most games of it's time, it was well ahead of the game. And as for stuff I missed, well, the first time I played it I was only 12, I didn't really understand it too well and the quests were difficult. Now that I'm 21, it's incredible how many things just keep popping up. Like the Mudcrab Merchant, whom I never discovered before hand, and also Maiq the Liar, I didn't find him when I first played through. But also other stuff, like little details. For instance, I never realised that Divayth Fyr's daughters were named Alfe, Beyte and Delte like the greek alpahabet. I know it's only a little thing, but especially as a kid, I never understood that kinda stuff.

I also didn't realise that the Daedric Crescent was the same weapon that is displayed on another elder scrolls title: battlespire, seen here. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:BattlespireCoverArt.jpg

It does still surprise, which is why Bethesda rock.

Povuholo....talk to me off list if you are interested.

Oh no. It may take years because I'm not going to actively look for it, but one day I'll stumble upon it all by myself. :P

So, while I've decided to mostly stop my random exploring(mainly because I want lots to explore while i'm playing my Priest character), I still can't resist going into a new dungeon when I see one. Such it was today, going to do a quest for House Hlaalu, when I stumbled across a new dungeon. Went inside, saw some Atronachs and Daedroth, and thought "Cool, higher level dungeon". Little did I realize that I was in a dungeon containing a Legendary Sword, known as Chrysamere! I found Chrysamere at the end of the dungeon on a Conjurers body, and I was stunned! I've never found this sword before(never had a reason to go out and find it since I've never made a character that uses two handed weapons before). So happy now! I have quite the collection of Unique and Legendary artifacts now, just waiting to be displayed inside my stronghold once it's finished!

I only today started playing again after a year away, now I have a new desktop that can actually run it well.

It's the sheer variety of ways different people in different playstyles can get engrossed in the world. I rented a room for the month in the Balmora Council club and bought some steel armor. I was woken in my sleep by a noise, but there was nobody there. I drew my iron longsword, and catiously investigated the building. It was full of listless Dunmer, but I actually crept up on the DB assassin, and got to keep his ebony dart. I travelled to Mournhold to deal with the problem, though I did not take the opportunity to investigate the brotherhood. I travelled to Vivec, and bought a new pair of steel boots at the top of the Foreign Quarter, as well as some ingredients, which I took back to Balmora with me to bake some bread. I stopped off to meet Creeper again and sell him the DB armor, whilst picking up a good robe to disguise my militartistic attire.

It's when you can spend an hour basically doing routine gaming stuff and enjoy it completely, and you're walking back to your inn as the sun starts to set, that Morrowind Theme starts up, and you remember why you love Morrowind so much.

During the main quest i believe, i came upon a cave and
Spoiler
found a sword, a pretty awesome sword. I was like omg now the mobs get it. And went away happily and eager to try it. What i didnt realize is that the sword was just a diversion, for an amazing SHIELD of supreme power which hung right above the sword, but i didnt notice, because i was busy observing the sword. I only read it on the internet later, and thought, "he, i WAS in that cave, but there was no shield, what are they talking about". But it was me, who was fooled. Bethesda won.

that like totaly freaked me out. Very clever. You dont see such evilness in an average game.

I'm guessing you're talking about
Spoiler
Eileioden's Ward, which was in a cave with a daedric shrine/tomb in it? If so, yeah, I almost missed the shield as well ^^" Thankfully, I was mindlessly jumping around on the corpse and I happened to catch a glance of it :)
, and if so, yeah, Bethesda Devs have a wicked deviousness inside them ^^

Are you talking about the sword that is green and gives you the resist magika spell? I don't recall seeing a shield there. I guess I got caught in the trap of looking at the sword as well.

Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. I've been a gamer for a long time now and have experienced many other adventures, but none that compare to the scope in Morrowind. When you add the TESCS to the experience, Morrowind takes me to place I never thought possible beforehand. The amount I'm learning through this game is amazing. I cannot see myself tiring of this adventure.

All my mods and many others can be found here. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/

Cheers!

I don't remember seeing a sword there... Just some Daedric stuff. And that odd object that turned out to be a shield. :)

It is possible that I had looted the sword beforehand, though, but cannot remember...

V Ah, now that was a quick reply... I edited my own post during it. Others seem to recognize the sword though... Random loot? Another cave with another supreme shield? :D

Yeah, I checked it in the CS, there's some daedric armor and an axe, but not a sword.

Yeah, the setup is pretty nice. You might think that the Daedric mask, shield and axe are the best loot that cave gives... remarkable loot on their own. :)

You should always look up though, for there are many hidden ledges and stuff elsewhere that you can only access with levitation. I always search for those. Well, didn't find any in that cave, but still I was glad I looked up. :P
