M'aiq's Dilemma

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:21 am

"M'aiq believes the children are our future. But he doesn't want them ruining all our fun." M'aiq the Liar

Do you think children will be included in Skyrim? Do you want them to be included?

Personally I think they should and will be included, after all there were some in Fallout 3, and even as far back as Fable 1.

Give me your opinions!

I would love for there to be children, and I dont see why not.
They dont even have to be essential, if someone is sick enough to go around killing children, atleast there not doing it for real.

Maybe we'll see M'aiq's child(ren), eh? A whole litter of liars running around the place. Grown by now, of course. Or his descendants if the game takes place much later after Oblivion.

Ehhh..I'm gonna have to go with M'aiq on this one. Having a single annoying Bosmer in the way is enough for me.

The only notable kid in Elder Scrolls I remember was that one that howled in Castle Wayrest. I don't think they're really important to the feel of the game at this point.

Yes please. I don't care if they aren't killable.

No kids. For some reason there's ageist bullcrap where they can't be killed even though they're a bunch of pixels and no different than any pixelated beast or advlt or any other pixel you want to name.

(Can anyone tell me why kids are more important than advlts? Riiiight. I don't buy it. Never have. But then I'm in the minority).

One more thing... deer are non-hostile and "innocent" and yet we can kill them? All life is sacred. Real, biological, heart-beating life. Not computer generated, basic, artificial intelligence... I really can't understand it, but whatev.

You, sir, would make a bad politician :P

I wouldn't mind children in TES V. I wouldn't care whether they should be killable or not. In Fallout 2, you can kill children but you get slapped with the "Child killer" title and no one wants to talk with you afterward. Heck, Fallout New Vegas depicted a dead child (more properly, a child's skeleton) in one of the caves.

I want to see M'aiq hanging by the neck from a tree, with a sign on his body saying "The Liar", and a pair of calipers sticking out of him every here and there.

They had children in Daggerfall. Use TES as the precedent on that one, they came before Fallout.

I wouldn't mind at all.

It might help with immersion and whatnot.

I'm against unexplained immortality...what that extends to is entirely up to the developers. :stare:

I'm not against unexplained immortality at all in this situation.

Right behind ya with that idea. I just hope he does not comeback as a ghost afterward.

I think the argument goes "They're physically and mentally weaker, and they haven't had a chance to live life yet." It's a mixture of emotion and Honour.

The thing about deer, though, is that they are game animals in our world. Generally, we only shoot bucks/stags and shooting does is illegal. They're more vital to more deer populating the world, the bucks are there just for their sperm. I did find it odd that we could shoot does in Oblivion without any backlash from the citizens.

"M'aiq believes the children are our future. But he doesn't want them ruining all our fun." M'aiq the Liar

i always thought that was more of a crack towards the ratings board. a statement that says "this game wasn't intended for kids, but we made it suitable for them to please the ESRB...even if it does ruin some of the fun"

the "children" in question are not in-game children, but child gamers.

just my take.

But there is another dilemma. Some, such as myself, think that adding children would improve realism however making them immortal would decrease immersion. But there are people who think we just wanna kill children, so I'd rather not have any children...

Plus, they are annoying ;)

No. No, no no no no. Kids are annoying. I hated them in the Fallout games, they just annoyed me so much. Couldn't even punch em... at least I don't think you could, don't really remember. Anyway, I know.. I'm a terrible person, but I don't care. Kids annoy me. I don't want them in the game.

I think if having invincible children decreases your immersion, then your immersion skill is poor. Seriously, how the heck are you more immersed with no children whatsoever than you would be with children you can't damage? There's no way. None.

Easy way to deal with kids:

You don't have to make them immortal/unkillable the way characters are in Oblivion (We think you got the memo on that one that it's really, really annoying). All you do is give them plenty of hit points, and whenever they get struck by a weapon or spell, they run in the opposite direction. And their speed is greater than any other character in the game, even with enchantments. Voila, death is avoided.

Oh, and yes, I think children would be a wonderful inclusion. I think they could serve all sorts of useful roles - couriers, eyes & ears for the Thieve's Guild, etc.

That was done in Fallout 3. If you attacked a children it would run but it could never be killed or knocked unconscious. But yes, adding children with these roles would be cool. But the immersion always decrease when you have them to be immortal.

But someone will end up modding the game and getting rid of the essential tag for them.

@Shades: Funny, I felt more immersed in Oblivion where it had no children then in Fallout 3. I don't even look at them, they are just annoying...

That really works out to be the same thing, only the politicians have a dig that the children are not completely invincible.
