Air stomp... so what do you think?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 5:47 am

Do you use it? Why do you use it?

imo it's 100% pointless and useless ability in game.

1. It barely does any damage (5 stomps @ target didnt kill - tested with friend)
2. It doesnt stun.
3. while this "stomp" animation takes 24 hours to complete you are basically paralized target (free kill as I like to say)

I dont see getting 150 air stomp kills completed never inorder to get lvl2 upgrade.

so.. anyone having some great sucess with it?

It's tricky, but it can definitely be used efficiently.

Believe damage is associated with drop distance... you're not supposed to be doing it mario style after jumping at someone. Think like the charge drop from inFamous.

It's difficult to master alright, but it's an interesting addition to the variety of different tactical maneuvers nonetheless.
If you don't like it, pick some other module instead.

It's not bad. People have different styles of playing so maybe that's why you don't like it.
But having extra options or skills is never a bad thing.

It takes a bit to get used to, but it can be a fun surprise.

(Based off of Demo experience.)

I think that Air Stomp have two sides, if you know how to use it,its great,if not you can say bye bye to Air Stomp.
Air Stomp can be used everywhere except Instant Action.
btw animation should be shorter.

Did I say from how much height I tested it? no.. why do you assume then?

The point is.. it almost doesnt do damage from any height.
You might want to drop down even from skyscraqer.. it doesnt doo squat...

what you see happening in demo is not doable in full release.

pls dont post if you have no idea what you are talking about

in demo I also stomped ppl to death like "mario"... maybe they nerfed it because of that? to the point of not even funny anymore - like they did with nanovision

Youre probably just a butterfly and carry no weight behind that punch. You can even watch in the video, some of the guys are undamaged and get 1 hit by the AS

I think the way it works right now is way too situation dependant. If at least it would give you another mobility trick edge of some sort :( Recovering after a stomp idd takes too much time, if it could stun or "snare" the opponent's sensitivity or things as such, dunno.

It would be hard to make it more viable while not making it suddenly overpowered. I don't wanna see people bunny hoppin' their stomps from a standard power jump on the same height of the target. Yet not really much of any other module has the concept of being punished for using them except than "if only I had that other module instead". I mean if your stomp fails or someone has an occasion to shoot you while recovering from a stomp, you're basically screwed. I don't use it but everytime someone tries it on me and actually fail like 99 times out of 100 I sure am gonna be happy filling his idle head with bullets...

When you look at the other modules some are situational as well but more well rounded. Nano Regeneration or Energy Transfer in comparison are great for example. The conditions to profit are a lot more straight forward, frequent and cannot be punished: one is get a kill to benefit from your module (but don't get greedy and die - that's something anyone does with or without that module) while the other one is stay alive. Stomp? Find height, be there at the right place, right time and try to land it on multiple opponents for maximum profit. Hmmmm...

However as far as it goes the damage data says that it is velocity based, meaning more height, faster landing.
Minimal damage, 40 in a 2 meter radius; maximum being 220 in a 7 radius. Thing is, since I don't have any buddy yet in here I haven't been able to test a couple of things that intrigue me - one being is the damage reduced if you have Armor Mode on, another is if you have a higher run speed (best would be having a Nova in hand + the Mobility node from Armor module) counts as velocity and the last one being is this damage gradually reduced depending on how far an affected target is within the radius? Anyone been able to test this around?

Yea you really need to get more closer. I swear to god sometimes they don't get killed and it tickes me off. The animation is slow on it too leading a result of you getting shot ugh lol. BUT it works. Takes practice and timing. Someone oughta do a mythbuster on it lol.

this video is from DEMO? do you get it.. not?

well I dont know..

tested from massive heights.. some tiny damage only.

tested when friend having armor on.. even less damage.

every step away from stomp area reduces damage drastically.. at 5 feet it almost doesnt do anything at all than just "loud noise in speakers"

Doesn't it improve as you use it anyway? (Wider range?)

AirStompless.

It's cause you need to be heavier.
Pick this dual-weapons perk, take two guns that look like the biggest one, add JAW to the back, than go to the roof at SkyLine and jump down to the bottom, where there's that hole on the ground. It's a skill-kill vaporising all the players on the map.

I'm pretty sure people "assumed" that you did it from a standing jump because you said it took 5 or more jumps to kill someone. If you had to run up stairs or climb a ledge to reestablish your height between hits then your target would have regenerated making the test worthless past the first. For the record this isn't an assumption, it's an inference from incomplete, but suggestive data.

the point is..

1. you cannot regenerate so quickly
2. you shouldnt be alive after stomp from 2-nd floor in pier 17 anyway
3. people who doesnt know ****, assume too much out of thin air...
4. ppl fail to read posts, as you do...

anyway it doesnt matter... even 2 stomps by just jumping should do the trick, period.. if not then its broken and ability is 99% useless.

who on earth would be so stupid to use stomp over energy transfer for example?

Maybe you have to enable Armor mode before you do a stomp. I haven't tried it but anyone noticed how footsteps sound changes when you enable Armor mode? It sounds really heavy. Maybe that's the trick for sucessful stomp kill from above...

I unlocked 150 kills with it in the Demo. Its great fun, but it could use a serious boost - perhaps 50% damage in a 3M radius from 'jump' height, and instant-kill from double that height.

Not if your wearing a powered exoskeleton with artificial muscles, but unfortunately we don't have any those in reality yet :P.

Is it powerful ? No
Should be ? Neeeeeeeh, just a little bit.
Fun to use ? Yes
Need adjustment ? Yes, adding an animation and effect for the opponent, like keeping from fighting like air stomper. Maybe lose balance or slip, or reduced sight because of zero point dust.
