Do Airport even exist in Fallout series?

Megaton was likely build from Dulles but the word its used is not airport but air station.

Ronald Regan Airport is south of the Jefferson Memorial on west side of the river so its out of the map.

Another thing, if you look at a map the runway is about the distance from the Washington monument to the Capitol so its A LOT of space on the map that would be ... well, to be very honest, wasted.

After combing the desert of the DC wasteland there is not even one airport in the game? Now of course someone could say "well the developer didn't have time to put it in", but looking at it at a cultural stand point maybe the people of Fallout didn't really use airplanes. It would kinda make sense, since their main focus on nuclear power that the aerospace front was over looked .

Just a coincidence. There are airports. Most definitely. I'm guessing that the airplane that Megaton was made out of was probably from an Airport. Unless it was some kind of military airplane, in which case it would have come from a hangar.

Again, I think it was most likely a coincidence that they never put airports in. The one old lady in Megaton tells you about the "buses in the sky that could transport you anywhere you wanted to go."

Airplanes.

Well, of course it doesn't; transistors were never invented in the Fallout universe therefore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort was never created.

Just a nitpick, but transistors were invented in the Fallout universe but never emerged beyond their 1950's level (smaller than tubes but much bigger than a microchip) and tubes are clearly the preferred equipment.

My guess is the desktop computer seen in the game use a mix of tubes and transistors. I would say the look of some of the computer technology would imply Fallout universe vacuum tube and transistor technology is anologous to as far as 1961-1962 level in our world (at least apperance wise).

http://transistorhistory.50webs.com/xstr.html has some good pictures transistors from the 1950's.

Well, no thats not neccesarily true.

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs *Could* have been born, and Woz being the genius that he is could have developed a consumer sized computer using something other than microprocesors and transistors. Steve Jobs can sell Ice to Eskimos.

There are after all very advanced computing devices in Fallout after all.

Theres an aircraft carrier... full of airplanes.

I think your theory has a few holes.

They just didn't put an airport in.

Not to mention the walls of Megaton are said to be made from airplane parts, the crater was also made by a crashed airplane, and I think it was also suggested that the parts used to make the wall were salvaged from an airport, Bethesda probably just did not put any in the game.

There was an airport there, but if you talk to Manya at Megaton, she tells you that when they built Megaton, they scavenged all the planes and parts to build the town, until there was no trace left of the airport.

There obviously were airports prior to the "Great War", though the major difference would be in the average American's flying experience. Since there was no "War on Terrorism" in the Fallout Universe, therefore there would be no need for organizations such as the TSA....and it therefore stands to reason that travel in the Fallout Universe, would be far less restrictive(ie: passengers, would be able to carry pocket knives, liquids, firearms and many other things on civil aviation). On the flip side, the level of "take me to Cuba" hijackings which were synonymous with the "Cold War", might have increased substantially leading up to the "Great War", so perhaps there may have been a need to upgrade security measures at airports.
