Airships

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 11:18 am

Now we know that the Dwemmer have invented airships long ago so by this point in lore history airships may be a bit more mainstream. And since the most memorable enemies of this game will most likely be dragons, is anyone else imaging fighting a dragon while piloting a Dwemer airship? Also, maybe some more Dwemer tech can be utilized like catapults and ballistas and the such. I think if properly utilized that Dwemmer tech could make this game wonderful. I can just envision a fleet of airships following my lead charging head on into a fire breathing dragon. Dwemmer is one of the cooler aspects of this game and I think it would be a mistake if they do not use the tech in some aspects of the game. They certainly need airships at least.

I'm sure Dwemer tech would make things better(for some atleast, not me), but there is one problem: They are extinct and no one else really know how they did operate or make most of their stuff. As for airships: The world is simply to small to support airial travel, like OB(and MW, even if they included it).

I think it would be awesome to find a downed airship. If it was big enough, it'd make for a great dungeon.

Is it wrong that I immediately thought of Final Fantasy upon seeing this thread?

Anyway, I don't have much of a preference either way on this. I wouldn't mind Dwemer airships, but I'm not pushing for them.

Dwemer technology is lost, mate. And just finding a piece of technology does not automatically make people know how it can be replicated. I doubt tamrielians even understand how to make steam engines..

^ Or maybe a buried, underground airship even. Would be awesome crawling through a cave, coming to a large cavernous opening and seeing this half-destroyed airship resting on a bottomless cliff edge, all underground.

The Redguards use RECLAIMED Dwemer Airships, the people of Tamriel DO NOT have the capability of making one from scratch. and what people seem to ignore from lore is that the Dwemer are a testament to NOT advancing Tech as an affront to the Gods, however ill informed the Tamriel may be in thinking that.

To make things fly, no need for dwemer technology, just use Levitation magic....Oh wait.. Nevermind Levitation has been removed since Oblivion.. :P

Did you play Morrowind?

This was a big back-story to that game, and if you did the right quests thoroughly enough, you found out.

[EDIT] While it doesn't give anything away (or tell the tale your character hears in game) - http://uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Mystery_of_the_Dwarves

That's the quest. If you have Morrowind, you can play with the console and go through it, or better yet, make a mage character and join the mages guild to start some dwemer research while you wait for Skyrim.

This. A lot of people are too afraid to mess with science because of what happened to he Dwemer. The Dwemer were blasphemers and even constructed their own god. They did nothing but spit in the eyes of the divine.

In best case scenario, you might see a single Dwemer airship which can be used as means of Morrowind-like FT.
Still, I doubt it since it's a Dwemer technology and it kinda died out with them.
I would like to see a DLC with it though.

No they won't.
If you want to see guns in TES, you will ether have to mod them in or hope for a gun as an EE (even though I don't like idea of guns in TES, I still think that a gun would make a wonderful EE).

You seem to be missing what people keep saying, buddy, so I'll reiterate it: people don't know how to use Dwemer tech.

They can sometimes manipulate technology that is found intact (the Redguards were able to do this), but as for using Dwemer tech to create technology on par with what the Dwemer themselves made? No one does it, and no one wants to do it because of the fact that that knowledge destroyed the Dwemer.

In other words: it'll never happen in a TES game.

I thought of FF too.

Regardless, I don't hate this idea. I would love to have airships in a future game, but doubt it will be in this one. As someone else suggested though, a ruined airship might be nice.
