What exactly is it? Ive read that its the land of Beasts, and If thats the case then in one Oblivion quest why were they waiting for an army to arrive from there at Pale Pass? Also who attacked Sancre Tor? Im very new with lore but I really enjoy learning about it!

The Akaviri were ancient invaders of Tamriel who created the Draconian Madstone.

The term "Akaviri" generally refers to the plethora of races existing in the continent of Akavir, which is roughly 4200 miles east of Tamriel.

There are quite a few references to these. There are the Akaviri Weapons that most of the Blades use, as well as to be found in some ruins. There are also multiple mentions to them in books across Oblivion. During the quest Lifting the Vale you even get to meet Mishaxhi, the ghost of an Akaviri Commander.

In Morrowind, there is a reference to Vivec teaching the Dunmer how to breathe underwater in order to flood Vvardenfell, killing Akaviri invaders. Cloud Ruler Temple is suggested to be an example of Akaviri architecture

Okay thank you. One more question here I hear from many people that one of my favorite quests in Oblvion breaks Lore History is this true. Its where you recover the Draconian Madstone, why would this break lore?

The Akaviri invaders were supposed to be snakemen, the Tsaesci. Instead, we got human skeletons. There were men in Akavir a long time ago, but they were eaten by the snakemen. Bunch of people tried to come up with theories for this discrepancy.

One dev tried to put on the "I'm a dev so we created the lore." But, well that wasn't accepted well, especially when controversial facts are supposed to be in-character.

A poster introduced the idea that Tsaesci kept humans as slaves or front-line men during the invasion, in that not all Akaviri men were extinct.

Another guy went with that the humans in Pale Pass are actually Tamrielic humans who sided with the Akaviri because they didn't like the current institution. That implies they adopted many Akaviri cultural practices.

And well, there's the Star Trek alien explanation, where its due to limitations.

Okay I knew it had something to do with Men coming from Akaviri, but It still was a cool quest regardless finding a fortress hidden for centuries in the mountains, then recovering an artifact and delivering orders that finally let the commander rest in peace, it was like an Indiana Jones movie.

Actually, it has something to do with the snakemen coming from Akavir rather than the men themselves. The book On Akavir states that the Tsaesci ate the men. The word "ate" people have been interpreted in a variety of ways, such as cultural assimilation. Others do believe that it literally did occur and that men in Pale Pass was a mistake.

Personally, it was just an elaborate fetch quest with, other than Narina Carvain's topics on history, too little interesting lore other than the Akaviri like to name their fortresses after snake parts.

The way it was described and the non-journal parts were coolest though. It was personally rewardind actually having means of liberating the wanddering soul of the commander by means other than combat. It truly did feel untouched for centuries when you arrived in the fortress and everyone was still following orders.

What, snakemen can't do both?

Eat and assimilate?

"We are the Tsaesci. Resistance is futile, you are irrelevant, you will assimilated, then eaten."

I personallty believe in the cultural assimilation theory.

Ditto. I was thoroughly disappointed with the quest.

That's one interpretation. I don't know what to believe, personally.

I bet developers don't either, yet. :D I personaly hope we'll learn more about true nature of tsaesci in the future games. Even if the Lore gets changed again, i don't mind, but i think the defenite answer is needed for this problem.
