Akumu....is it worth it?

Post » Sat Feb 14, 2015 4:21 am

Hi all

I finished my nightmare run and I'm currently enjoying running around like a loony punching anything that moves.

Total death count was 58.

I'm the kind of completionist player that likes to platinum any game I can. Apart from games with multiplayer trophies that is.....Call of duty has ruined the single player game...single handed IMO.
Who enjoys getting their butt wupped by a 7 year old! :D

So .... Akumu .... is it worth it?

Too frustrating or thoroughly rewarding?

Cheers.

Corrected spelling mistake, although "Akuku" sounds even harder than Akumu. :D

I would say the reward outweighs the frustration. I just platinumed the game myself, never intended to do so but after completing my akumu run I thought I may as well.

TBH, save for maybe 5 or 6 very hard parts of the game, akumu is little different to nightmare once you get used to it, which you should be by the end of chapter 4. For those 5 or 6 parts, you'll find that luck plays a large part, and you'll probably get lucky during 2 or 3 of these parts and get past them relatively quickly. That being said, two parts that you will definitely struggle on our the chapter 6 burning building section and the chapter 11 zipwire-cart ride section.

My tips would be; dont upgrade the revolver or shotgun much, except for revolver accuracy; upgrade your sniper and magnum damage as soon as you get them; and try and save up your green gel and max out the harpoon asap to get that fire damage bonus which is incredibly useful. Also, try and get as many keys as possible, even look online for them if you have to.

Thanks for the advice Joseph, very much appreciated :)

I got all the keys in my nightmare run and they certainly did help.

On that point actually, I think there must be more keys than we need!
I definitely did not get the key at the Laura fight in chapter 10. There was no way I was going to stick around trying to kill her on nightmare....I just ran awaaaay!

I also don't think I got the key in the "trap kitchen"
I did shoot the statue but in my panic to get through I don't think I picked it up.

But....I still had enough keys to open all the lockers.
Loved the nice surprise in the last locker! :)

I also guessed wrong that we could use the knuckles to get the speed run trophy....oh well never mind.

I'm just not sure whether I would have the patience to do Akumu.
I guess I can multiply my 58 deaths in nightmare by 10! :)

Thanks again.

Anybody got anymore thought?

Cheers

well u already know the layout ty to nightmare

I didn't know it and still beat the game under some 14 hours and 117 deaths

in my opinion the game's difficulty and platinum rating on pstrophies . org are way off the mark, but maybe it's just me

I think it's worth a go, it is like how the game is meant to be played imo >< it makes it the most realistic damage wise, which was probably the point

anyways your call if it makes you uncomfortable than there is no real reason to push it

FYIA didn't come to debate on the word realistic if anyone feels like challenging me on that statement haha
