[RELz] Alakazar's Lamp

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:18 pm

I have been hesitant to release this mod, as I wanted to be sure that every thing was fine on my
end (as far as including all of the necessary/correct files and what have you). This is a culmination
of 2 years of cobbling and texturing, which would not have been possible without the community
that came before and the wonderful one that surrounds me now. This has been a blast, as I have
learned so much from working with each and every item, with each one subsequently becoming
more "polished" and refined with each new attempt. While this is a large mod, I hope that the
items herein will be enjoyed by those that are playing Morrrowind, as it makes my heart beat just a
little faster and with a bit more joy when I see others enjoying what I have shed blood and sweat
over (mostly in the texture department). So without further ado, here is the initial release of
Alakazar's Lamp (A "BETA" , as I want to add more to the mod in the future):

INSTALLING THE PLUGIN

*****************************************************************
Manual Installation:

This mod's archives are packaged/archived with 7zip. Should one desire to use
this mod, an archive programme such as 7zip, Winrar, Winace, or
Zip Genious should be used to extract/open the information/files herein.
(Although, if you are reading this, then you already know how to do
extract from archived files, so good for you :D ).

This mod has been divided into 4 archives (for uploading and downloading
ease of use). The mod is divided thusly:

Alakazar\'s Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs.7z
Alakazar\'s Lamp Textures_1.7z
Alakazar\'s Lamp Textures_2.7z
Alakazar\'s Lamp Textures_3.7z
Alakazar\'s Lamp Textures_4.7z

Alakazar's Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs.7z - This archive contains the
folder Alakazar's Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs. Upon opening this folder
one will find the Icons, Meshes, Music Folders, as well as two .esps,
Alakazar's Lamp.esp & Alakazar's Lamp_no_music.esp

To best install this archive, extract the contents of the archive
Alakazar's Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs.7z to your desktop (if
done correctly you will now see the Alakazar's Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs
folder). Next, open your C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files
(assuming that C: is your main drive for Morrowind, if not, then substitute
the correct path for your installation). Now open the Alakazar's
Lamp Meshes_Icons_Music_ESPs folder and select all the files therein (the
Meshes, Music, and Icons folder, and one of the .ESPs; only one of those
is needed which will be explained later in this README). Once these are
selected/highlighted, then drag them into the opened C:\Program Files\Bethesda
Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files window. One should then be prompted to
overwrite the corresponding folders in the Data Files. Click yes to all
and the Meshes, Icons, Music, and .esp sould now be in the correct locations.

Alakazar's Lamp Textures_1.7z -
Alakazar's Lamp Textures_2.7z -
Alakazar's Lamp Textures_3.7z -
Alakazar's Lamp Textures_4.7z -

These archives contain the texture files for the mod. The installation
for these is much the same as above, so repeat the method demonstrated
above for correct installation of each of these texture archives.

*A Note on the two versions of the .ESPs:
There are two .ESPs included in this mod, and they are the same
save for one key difference; the one with "no_music" in the title
disables the music in the main store area (that would otherwise
add atmosphere). This is an option for those that can not cope
with the streaming music bug that resets the volume levels once
streamed music is played. Personally, this has never been a real
bother for me and it is relatively easy to fix, but out of respect
for those that might be bothered, the "no_music" version is the
one to use ;) .

*****************************************************************

PLAYING THE PLUGIN

*****************************************************************

From the Morrowind Launcher, select Data Files and check the box next to
Exotic Imports by Westly.esp to activate the mod :D.

This plugin adds several year's worth of modding goodness that I have been
holding back (due to my perfectionist nature, sadly). And yet, Huzzah!;
the content that I have been hoarding like a dragon on a bed of gold and
jewels can at last be shared in the behemoth that is this mod. There is a
vast amount of new content added: Armours (mostly BB in nature), weapons,
clothing, miscellanea, interior world spaces to explore and to make one\'s
home. All of this can be found with in the confines of a very unexpected
place: Alakazar's Lamp...

One will find the lamp hidden in the Vaults of the Mushroom dwellers,
protected by brothers of stone and storm...

(be prepared as you will to best obtain the lamp, whether by stealth
or full on blood smearing combat, how you roleplay it is entirely up to
you, of course).

Once one has obtained the lamp, it need only be "rubbed" by the player
to be transported to the world's within, with the Store front being the
first stop (with the Djinn Alakazar and his wife Jazhara awaiting to
impart their wares to you for the right prices). Further exploration of
the lamp will reveal a bed chamber with ample storage, Exhibition Room
with display cases and BB mannequins (male and female), Bath Chamber,
Twilight sanctuary (an area fit for a mage or a scholar with additional
Summoning and Map Chambers), The Flying Gardens (islands caught in the air
by unseen forces, as well as a central garden floating above a deep reef
area; be prepared to fly and breathe underwater, as there are no easy
choices for those without these magics save "rubbing" the lamp again
to return to the first chamber); explore the reef to find a sunken
palace as well as the enterance to an underwater cavern (the latter
containing unique riches as well as dangers writhing in the deepening
dark).

*Note: this mod, in large, is a "shopping" mod, whereas the intended
items in this mod will have more prominence and difficulty in obtaining
in the actual ELSEWORLDS! mod (rather than just being purchased). The
purpose of this mod, Alakazar's Lamp, is to make available all of the
work that I have made thus so that it is not lost or unused by those that
would, otherwise, not use the main ELSEWORLDS! mod as a whole. There
are a few items that are hidden in this mod (rather than being bought),
but they are not that hard to find/locate. Ultimately, I just want
players to enjoy what I have made without too much fuss (as, in the
end, I am an artist).

*****************************************************************

Save Games

*****************************************************************

This plugin will not invalidate your old saved games. If you save
your game while this plugin is loaded, you may encounter error messages
when you reload the saved game without the plugin. But you will be
able to continue on with the original game.

*****************************************************************

Issues/Bugs/Mild Irritances

*****************************************************************
- Most of the articles are designed with both genders in mind, so
one will find that males and females will have wearable options.

- Many of these garments use alpha channels (the layer in the texture that makes certain bits
of a mesh transparent through use of texture specified areas). As such, under certain
conditions, the garmanets might function awkwardly (like flickering when overlapped with
another alpha enabled mesh, or disappearing when spells like "Invisibility" or "Chameleon"
are cast on the player (though once the spell is ended, the garment should return to
normal). This true of many BB clothing mods, not just this one (so no worries, enh)?

- This is a Better Body mod (mostly), so other body mods are not supported in this
archive (so clothing will clip with the original bodies and Smoother Bodies).

- DO NOT MISPLACE THE LAMP :o ! If you do, then access to the Lamp interiors
will not be possible (save if you console in a new one). So treat the lamp
like a treasure, and all will be well :) .

- The items in this mod are meant to stay in this mod for the players use
(not a modder's resource), as they will be incorporated into a larger
world mod eventually .

- There is an alchemy lab in the Twilight Sanctuary, but there is not ingredient
auto sort function. I tried to add the right scripts for the alchemy sorter,
but I kept getting errors (odd ones at that), so for now, there is not a scripted
auto sort, but the jars are there so that one can self-sort (like as one would
do in "real life" .

- "insert future issues here"

*****************************************************************

Credits & Usage

*****************************************************************
This list of Credits is more extensive than my usual mod, so
bear with me if I overlook a resource used, or gloss over who made what

Thank you NifTools for NifSkope
Thank you to the community for the continuing support.
Thank you to Master Sam and Froderick for testing
Thank you to AlienSlof for initally pointing me down the
right paths when I first began making mods.

-------------------------EULA---------------------------
Players of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind may use
these Items/Textures in this mod in their own personal
game freely. However, the items herein are not a modder\'s
resource, as they will be featured prominently in a larger
mod yet to come. This is set so as to reduce conflict and
maintain a level of quality control from the source/author,
Westly.

Do not reupload or redistribute this mod in any way
that is not in the capacity mentioned above for any other
purpose than for the gameplay of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Usage outside of the purpose of gameplay for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
is strictly prohibited.

However, should one desire the use of a certain item, then
ask and I will see what can be done together to make an item
that is comparable to the items herein that would be unique to
your mod. If this is the case, then please Include this
information along with a credit to me (Westly) in additional
READMEs in an individual section concerning the use of these
textures as they are without alteration (whereas any
alterations are prohibited).

These requests and permissions cover only this mod and
not the game itself.

--------------------------------------------------------

Also, please do not convert these to Oblivion (or another game/3-D format),
as I (Westly), will do this myself (at some point),
working from my source files rather than trying to make what I have made
for Morrowind fit (like a copy of a copy), when adjustments can
be made on my end that would benefit the quality of the mod a
great deal :D. This is true of my mods in general (as I like to
mod as much firsthand as I am able to ensure the right balance
of quality for players that might use a mod to which my name
is attached).

The Clothing of the M\'Harjahn-
A quick look at all some of the pieces of M\'Harjahn clothing (enough shown to give a general idea
as to what will be available). I even made up a bit of a naming system that would give
the feeling of the unique language of the clothing\'s makers.

(be prepared to fly and water breathe in this area, as there are no shortcuts; the
flying islands are not connected and once one falls in the water, there is no way
out save for levitating upward or "using" the lamp again).

(There is also an exhibition area with amble display and wooden mannequins, male and female)

Also, a quick screen of http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Extra%20Pics/WAR_DEA_SCREENS1.jpg and http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Extra%20Pics/WAR_UNDERMAILLE_SCREEN1.jpg (which can be worn under
any BB armour, so if you have a favourite skimpy set but want to RP a bit more protection
in certain situations, then here is a solution; the undermaille comes in several colours
and textures [chain or leather]).

Plus much, MUCH more!

EDIT:
Thanks to Arkeyla, it has come to my attention that tow particle textures were missing from the archive (used on the Rune Staves). Here is the link for those missing textures;

See PES Link Below for Missing Textures

Sorry for the inconvenience (this installs like the texture packs, so see the above instructions; the same applys)

EDIT2 (5:55pm EST ): added missing texture "WAR_Glass_SKRT2.dds" to the Missing Textures link above (one step closer )

EDIT3: Now Available at PES

Just curious here. Are all the texture downloads the same or separate? Do I need to download them all?

Btw great looking mod, great job!

They are separated so that the archives would not be so big (else it would be one extremely huge archive if it were all consolidated into one).
So, yes, you need all of the downloads for this to work :)

Can I take that as an order? *grin* Only two DLs left then I can do precisely that! Though I should probably go earn myself some more moolah first so my spree doesn't get interrupted by lack of cash...

Westly you are truly inspiring and awsome. I hope that you continue to mod for morrowind, for without your work i would feel lost.

You need all of them. ;)

FYI: 4shared wait is ~30 secs for each of the files before you can dl.

@Westly, thanks a bunch for sharing! I like the idea that you decided to release this in this fashion as an alternate to Elseworlds!  :trophy:

After equipping the Silver Rune Staff of Shock (the blue topped staff) I got a horrid beepy noise and CTD... just a heads up. Could be something I did wrong though!

Well, Ron ol' pal, I'm looking at the archive in which your textures appear to be giving you the errors, and they are certainly in there, so I suggest reinstalling texture pack 2 and see if it clears up for you (else it has been working for my testers who have DL'd the mod prior from the same links without these errors) :) .

Take Care

Hmmm...

I have a brand new install of Morrowind (no other mods) so let me do a fresh install of this mod and see if I get the same on my end. If I do, it may be that I do not have an appropriate .IFL file for the staff (for animations), else I did have it at one point and I did onot pack it in the main mod archive (after all, if this is the only file that is missing, then I am doing pretty good :) ).

Back in a bit ... :bolt:
