“Soldiers of Cyrodiil! The Empire will stand or fall by what we do here today! Will we let the Daedra do to Bruma what they did to Kvacth? Will we let them burn our homes? Will we let them kill our families? No! We make our stand here, today, for the whole of Cyrodiil! We must hold fast until the Hero of Kvacth can destroy their Great Gate, we must kill whatever comes out of that Gate! Soldiers of Cyrodiil, do you stand with me?”
These very words burned into Alavesa Oril’s mind as Martin Septim, the heir of Uriel Septim, spoke to the soldiers arrayed in front of him.
The soldiers drew out their swords and answered “YES”. As they answered there was a rumbling sound as an Oblivion Gate opened up and a wave of Daedra came charging out.
Alavesa glanced to her right and saw the hero of Kvacth, he was a large nord arrayed in Blades armor, as the Daedra charged towards the soldiers she saw him pulled out an elegant blade made of an unknown substance.
“For Martin,” she heard the Nord roar.
She herself mustered her courage and held up her spear in preparation for the oncoming monsters. The first wave was mainly compressed of Scamps but the odd Churl or two was in their ranks to keep order and to maintain a steady charge. Although this wave greatly outnumbered the soldiers, it didn’t take long for it to break up and lose momentum.
Soon enough the other two gates were opened and a large group of dremora came charging out of the gate, at the head of them was a Kynmarcher, he wielded a huge hammer. The Kynmarcher was unstoppable on the battlefield all who stood in his way were killed. Alavesa herself was tangled up as a huge Daedroth charged into the ranks of the soldiers. The monster bashed its way through, until it faced Alavesa, it let out a huge roar that drowned out all other sound. Alavesa lunged out with her spear, it sliced into the daedroth’s shoulder but before she could pull it back out the monster swatted her aside like a cat playing with a mouse. The Daedroth roared in pain as it pulled out the spear, the spear was covered in red blood; the Daedroth then in anger threw the spear away. The spear became a projectile as it sliced into a man, going threw his stomach and out the other side, the man was unfortunately still alive and screaming in terrible pain as he bleed out onto the snow.
Alavesa landed on her back, her vision was blurred and she couldn’t hear anything, but when the sound came back the first thing she heard was a blood curdling roar, she managed to look up. To her disgust she could see that the Daedroth was coming towards her. The monster’s right arm was hanging where the spear had cut through the muscles, but the creature hadn’t given up. Its crocodilian like head swayed side to side looking for the dunmer who had inflicted its wound, when it saw the dunmer on the ground injured it let out a roar and moved towards its target. A scamp managed to get into the Daedroth’s way, the monster simply trampled over it crushing bones. The Daedroth stopped, it looked down at Alavesa it held up its left hand readying itself to kill the elf. Alavesa knew it was the end, she was too weak to even defend herself, and she looked up to meet the monster’s gaze. It got ready to kill her, she awaited her death but as the monster went to grab her it suddenly roared in pain, Alavesa looked up and what see saw took her breath away.
As the Daedroth went to grab the elf something leapt onto its back and with sword in hand stabbed down into the Daedroth’s back. It frantically tried to pull off the attacker but it was no use.
Alavesa couldn’t believe it, the man that had just jumped on the Daedroth was her superior and friend. He pushed his long sword into the Daedroth until it poked out the other side. He pulled it out and slashed down the monster’s back. The Daedroth fell to its knees and let out one last roar before its head was cut off. The headless beast fell down and stirred no longer.
“Garrus?” was the only word Alavesa could make; her voice was small and tired.
“It’s me Al” answered Garrus Darellium. Alavesa’s lover knelled down and embraced her, “It’s going to fine, I’m here for you”.
All around Alavesa went silent as she looked into her lover’s eyes and slowly she felt herself weakening as she crept into silent oblivion.
