Alchemy or enchanting

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 5:06 pm

Hey guys I'm just abou done with the perks that I want and am lookin for a new skill. I was thinking either alchemy oe enchanting.

Btw my main skills are:
Conjuration
Destruction
Illusion
Alteration
1 handed
Sneak
Smithing (just for fun and rp reasons)

So which one should I invest in? Maybe even restoration?

Many thanks!!

Depends, enchanting would probably get you the best results since Enchanting + Smithing together is possibly the most OPed thing in the game (no joke) but alchemy does supply lovely potions as well.

EDIT:

With most of the 1H tree filled out for blade (in a sword + shield combo), this is the rough/estimated damage rating a deadric sword has -

A normal Deadric Sword gives a damage rating of about 37 Damage.
An upgraded Deadric Sword with 100 Smithing and Deadric Perk gives about 75 damage...
an upgraded Deadric Sword with 100 Smithing, fortify smithing +125 (5x+25 fortify smithing enchants) and Deadric Perk gives about 105 damage

On top of this, now add in, I believe 5x 40% fortify 1-handed weapon effects... the uber 105 damage sword, now has a damage rating of 315... and just to add insult to injury, add on 37 points of frost and fire damage for another 75 points of damage (~200 charges from a grand soul gem). Even on Master Difficulty I do not believe there is much in the game that can survive nearing 400 damage attacks all that easily... make it a standing power attack for the power attack damage and the +25% damage from the savage strike perk and you're probably OHKOing ancient dragons.

I lean towards alchemy for all of the readiness of the alchemical ingredients everywhere, and the effects are very helpful, I also find enchanting very useful, its also one of the funnest things in these games to pick alchemy . You also do not have to overpower it, its about choice.

Enchanting can give you some pretty powerful equipment, but can make you a bit overpowered at times.

Alchemy is fun to do, but doesn't really help me out any. I only use healing potions at times.

It depends on your playing style.

unless you are a mage, alchemy is very very very fun!!, and because its much harder to level with alchemy, its much more rewarding.

Which do you prefer, gathering ingredients or trapping souls? I'm about to hit 100 in both Alchemy and Enchanting, but I so enjoy scouring the environment for ingredients that Alchemy has my heart, and has since Ajira sent me on my first gathering quest in Morrowind.
