Alchemy - Help with Poison

Post » Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:02 pm

I am currently playing as a Bosmer archer. I have finally reached level 100 in alchemy (to be fair it didn't take long at all) and would like some decent recipes for poisons. So far the best one I have come up with does: Paralyze, Damage Health, Fire Damage and Frost damage. Anything better?

ps. I have shivering Isles.

Here is a link to an excellent alchemy site: http://oblivion.melian.cc/
In particular, use the http://oblivion.melian.cc/?cmd=cmdOblivionAlchemyWizard.

I'd suggest bookmarking this site for your future reference.
Hope that helps.

1. The poison you detailed is about as good as it gets!

2. The links provided by that Nefarious One are good. Here is another that I like: http://www.uesp.net/oblivion/alchemy/alc_calc.php

Happy poison making!

Dump the Frost damage, and throw rice or vampire dust in there for silence.
Harrada or Spiddal Sticks are a great base to a powerful poison. But let's not forget the all-powerful Black Tar, found in the Shivering Isles.

You're on the right track already with the Paralyze - don't worry about the damage you do with each hit, just freeze them in place and stop them fighting back and you can hit them a few more times with un-poisoned arrows to finish them off. Silence is a good addition to prevent them undoing your effects, and to stop the mages throwing anything back at you.

The problem with the "one-hit" kill is that it doesn't get you much experience for leveling the Marksman skill, so a tactic of "first hit stops them, so I can take my time" lets you boost your skill as you go.

I recall that Paralyze drops the target to the ground, but that can make your next shot miss high if you're too quick with it. Drain or Damage Speed leaves the target standing, but I don't think you'll get enough effect from the Damage, and Drain is only available as an enchantment on the bow (and hard to get!) The mastery perks of Knockdown and Paralyze at higher levels will let you leave this one out more often as Marksman progresses.

Also, for poisons, don't bother with moire than one damage type in each, but do make up separate frost/fire/shock damage ones for different targets. On a sword, multiple enchantments means not having to swap weapons, but since poisoning an arrow is one-at-a-time anyway, it doesn't buy anything to have a universal poison.

The best one you can make has 6 or 7 effects. I think there are two combo's. If you look up those alchemy charts, they are there. I did one of them and getting all the components in numbers is hard. A good one is the nirn/Si (think its greenmote or putresence) is a good one that is not too hard. Serious dam/fat hit and mobs don't save as well. The main problem I run into is any ones that you make, mobs will save more against them, but any you buy, or the nirn nirn/si combo will hit more. I'm sure someone here has the reason for that.

You need to mate your poisons with your enemy. I would never use a fire damage poison against a flame atronach.... or a frost damage potion against a wraith. The Nirnroot + Unrefined Greenmote combination works fast, as it drains massive amounts of health in a very short period of time. Depending on your alchemy skill, depends on whether there is enough power in that potion to finish the killing, or you will have to deal in another way; as the drain health option, works, but if it expires before the target is dead, the target regains ALL of its HP after the poison expires.

...Go to Cutters Weapons in Crucible (shivering isles)...get the madness ore list and then find enough ore and the Madness Bow Matrix by slaying and searching grummites...bring it to cutter...max out her disposition...then have her forge you that bow! ...Once you have traded enough with her, and have NOT gone to the amber smith, she will start forging all further madness weapons and armor as "perfect"...every time I find amber and amber matrixes I bring them to her too... With that bow, the perfect madness arrows, and a killer poison mixed with at least an expert alchemy set, you will definitely knock out or severely disable any foe! ...try nirnroot, unrefined greenmote, herrada, and spiddal stick...it's quite a show to see 'em try and squirm out of it! ...I have one I call "lights out" that just flattened a land drough and did the same on a daedra spider made with rice, vampire dust, morning glory root pulp, and nightshade... Best 'O Luck!

Hear ye, hear ye :foodndrink:

I have one that is my emergency poison, as well as a couple of "mage friendly" potions. I will say no more than that :whistling:

When clicking on Add reply, go to Other styles menu (top left) and select "Spoiler". From there you add what you want in the box that appears

i think the numerically highest poison damage available is
frost salt
imp gall
spiddal stick
vampire dust

this also silences as well. paralyze effects are less effective at higher levels, where enemies will either resist or be immune to it. the shivering isle components can match but not exceed this damage.

silence 26 seconds
frost damage 9 for 38 seconds
damage health 8 for 30 seconds
fire damage 9 for 37 seconds

total: 342 + 240 + 333 = 915

The total of the damage can be matched for fire - shock poisons as well, just using regular non-SI ingredients.

You may be better having shock = dam health, fire + dam health and frost + dam health when each are mixed with silence and paralyze. You can carry a collection of poisons specific for targets. As was posted before, it would be unwise to fire a poison at a target which enjoyed the benefits of the poison (fire at fire atronach).

It is rare for me to wied a weapon other than a bow now adays (many times through the game, repeating now with OOO) . The combination of sneak and good archery means that before anything knows you are there, you have the opportunity to apply feather fletchings to it. You can back up and handle multiple enemies , four damn dremora all coming at once, each pin cushioned, woo hoo.

You could be a tank, but to have a bow mastery is to be there and gone. The only quest where it is a real problem is the Light the Dragon fires. Too much confused close action. Have a poisoned magical blade at the handy.
