Alchemy Ingredients are a Nightmare to Manage

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:42 am

I never use alchemy I'm too busy hitting things with my weapon and killing Empire/Thalmor scum.
If you did - You'd spend less time hitting things while having a higher KPD.

My strat guide has become dog-eared at the alchemy pages. I don't know how you guys survive without it.

You should reword (Edit) the first post, or give up on getting your idea across in this thread? Because I think the best answer you're going to get is "put it in the chest","press the R button to take them out", or maybe "Do a barrel roll".

Anyway, sounds like you guys have some good ideas, maybe thread can be saved.

I'm not a very organized person, so I tend to carry all of my alchemy reagents with me wherever I go. If I find a table, I stuff my hands into my pockets, satchel, eats, mouth-.. (wherever I can find what I've stored) - and then simply grind down everything to make an interesting array of poisons and potions.

Maybe I should start thinking about managing my items better. *strokes chin*

The Whiterun homes is good as there is a little alchemy satchel sitting on the lab which you can throw everything into. The Markarth home has two barrels next to its lab.

The other houses are pretty bad though. For the Riften and Solitude ones you can use a cupboard or barrel in housecarls room next to the lab.

If you have favorite recipes you can keep the ingredients for those in a separate container so you don't have sort through all the rest to grab them. Ingredients for restore health potions like butterfly wings and blue mountain flowers are very light so you can just carry those around with you.

The ingredients are organized by effect at the alchemy station, thats enough for me.

It is a good idea I think. Myself I just grab everything then put what's left back afterwards.
When you have to grab everything the extra time putting it all back makes the ten second walk from storage to station rather trivial.

I just hit the button rapidly. I'm not saying there couldn't be another method. However, putting them back takes only a minute for a few hundred ingredients. It doesn't take any longer than managing the other crafting items. In fact, I find it easier, since those items end up mixed in with Miscellaenous, while ingredients have their own category.

It would certainly be nice if there was a "put all ingredients/items of this type in the container" button.

Id really like a one-click button to transfer ALL ingredients to storage. Actually id like to have this functionality for every section of the inventory.

Also, it would be best if alchemy lab had its own satchel attached, and would use whatever is stored there. The alchemy lab is Whiterun is perfect example.

Is this thread not so much about alchemy and more about the lack of common sense for house design. They could have got an 8 year old girl that plays the sims to much to do it better...most house have alchemy storage, im struggling to think of one that has soul gem storage next to the enchant table. why the crappy bases for the table arnt cuboards i dont no. or at least they could have included a few sacks... Most homes have to little storage for my tastes. Why dont boxes sort like inventorys beth?! As the guy above said just like theres a take all button there should be a drop all button, for when accessing containers without limits.

btw, I think it was while out and about in the northeast somewhere, in an unpopulated area grassy under some trees at the foot of a rocky hill, there were all the different kinds of mushrooms (including Blisterwort) growing in this big circle!
One of those great random things. (I hope it was random & not quest-related, I picked them all)

I ran into that circle too!

I also just found another mushroom circle tonight!

There is a solution: BE TIDY, DAMNIT.

I only pick up or purchase roughly a dozen types I need for potions.
- Fortify Health, Magicka & Destruction.
- Restore Health, Stamina & Magicka.
- Resist Frost, Shock, Fire & Magic.
this only works if ya already know what every ingredient does though, which first time players dont.

The only really well-designed house is the one in Markarth. It is packed with storage containers like two barrels and several sacks in the alchemy room, an upclass sidetable near the enchanting lab, 5 sidetables and wardrobes in the bedroom.

Its a pity the other houses are so bad. The Solitude and Riften basemants bug me because it is full of wasted space where containers could have been added to the alchemy and enchanting areas. The designers of those didn't really give any thought to what might be useful in play.

One doesn't need a metric crapton of ingredients to find out what they do, one can just eat them to find that out (All effects I listed are the first effect on most basic ingridients like Mountain Flowers). This only takes a dozen clicks.

If you have problems sorting through the ingridients - you are just lazy and untidy. You don't have to have an OCD to keep your stuff clean and organised.

The most annoying thing is ... E.

Yes. The "Yes" button you have to click in the dialog asking how many of an item you want to store is selected by pressing E on the keyboard.

This so happens to be the exact same button to eat an ingredient. Depending on how you collect ingredients, you have to very constantly make choices between pressing R to store and E to confirm that dialog and accidentally eating that jarrin root you saved. That wouldn't be pretty.

in Whiterun house there is a chest directly accross from the Alchemy lab. I keep my ~500 pounds of ingredients in that chest - grab them all when going to brew up some stuff. Only takes about 1 minute to put everything back into chest (on the pc)

I store mine in the same place. I have any books to do with alchemy on the bookshelf below and i store ingredients and fort alchemy clothes/jewelry in the box with the ingredients so i can take all, equip and use then store back really quickly.

I dont bother with any other homes. I only need a box for weapons, a box for apparel, a box for misc and a box for books/notes/scrolls.

There should have been several storage containers at each station. Dead bodies remedies this for me. I agree it is a poor design flaw.

I used a mod that adds an enchanting table with satchel right next to the alchemy table, in Breezehome.

I don't think there is an ideal place to live in this game. If I have the money, I should be able to have a basemant with grindstone, smelter, etc. Everything I need. Why not?

I also think I should be able to rename chests that I own. "Ingredients"; "Weapons", etc.

That's what mods are for, I guess.

When I get my rig built. The first two mods are going to be Overlook Tower and Dokiv's Hide out.

I want to move into Drela's cabin, that's the ideal house setup for me. One door to go in, also.

But if all they could do was give us a "store all" button, I'd take that and be happy; the square on my controller is getting worn out.

Yes, I looked up the fairy ring, just very cool to see it in the world.
